Hi, I know half the month is over but I'd like to join in. I'm going to need to control my budget as I am no longer working AND I have my 18-year-old nephew coming to stay for 6 weeks! Normally we are OH (eats at home on the weekends and occasionally dinner), me (eats at home all the time, plus doing SW), LO (eats at home on the weekends and weekday snacks and occasionally dinner). Budget is £200 for everything.
Have just been over my receipts and realised I have somehow spent £142.09 of my June budget already. How did that happen! But at least I know now and can get a handle on it.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

thought i'd lost lots of receipts but sitting here racking my tiny peanut brain I've realised I've only been in one food shop between last week's and today's shops.
that visit cost me £2 and today's trip to morries cost £25.25. considering today I bought a HUGE bottle of cooking oil (I can barely lift it) for £5ish i'm really quite happy.0 -
I have had a few spends, nothing too drastic, the biggest being £15. I really have so much stuff in, a combination of buying the odd bits and using with store cupboard. Also, lentils of all colours have become my new best friend, soups, curries etc., so been living ultra cheap, but making lovely healthy meals. Bought 7 huge mango's for £1 - dreaming of mango & chilli salad - the saddo I am. Hoping not to spend now and then I am off to Glastonbury with Greenpeace on Tuesday for six days - yaaay. Really looking forward to it. All my food is supplied, we have a big food tent and chefs that cook for us - all vegetarian - but we do have vegan options. My lodger said who are you looking forward to seeing most and I said Jeremy Corbyn in the Leftfield - oh n Radiohead. Super saddo. I really do need to get a life. Have a lovely w/e everyone. Cu when I get back.0

Went a bit off plan at the end of the week and bought extra baking potatoes and bacon on Thurs then even more chicken (we seem to eat tons of chicken!) and an enchilada kit last night. This was a classic "I'll get something to put together quickly" and it was the best I could find at the local small supermarket. They are such a rip-off - over £3 for tortillas, tomato puree and seasoning (basically)!
So my total to end of week 2 has crept up again.
Going to stocktake before making my shopping list, as the fridge seems quite full but I can't think of what to do with the contents! Apart from a whole chorizo I bought last week because it looked nice, which is destined for chicken and chorizo bake. Maybe HM pizza will use up the leftover half. Ah now my brain is waking up...takes a while on a Saturday.
Have a good weekend all and enjoy the sunshine (in the UK - supposed to be a scorcher!)GC Feb 2019 (to 10th) £397.07/£3000 -
Morning all.
I've been naughty this week - two unplanned shops on thurs and fri because I hadn't bothered to organise myself. Another £20odd pounds added to the signature. Two weekly shops to go, and £15 ish left...!!
Still, can't change it now. Need to be more organised. I've sorted out a shelf of my freezer and put a spag bol in the slow cooker for tonight. I found about ten packs of bacon in there, in just the one shelf!!! Not very happy with myself - will need to work some of that into the plan for the next few weeks.
Two mini pizzas out of the freezer for the children's lunch, and I'm having the rest of a giant onion with a chicken breast for mine, as both need using up.
I have a whole small chicken in my freezer. Will it defrost in time for me to cook it for dinner tomorrow if I take it out now? Tia.
Have a good weekend everyone!

I reckon it will defrost OK - that's almost 24 hours if you took it out after posting your message.
Tesc0 today because I was nearest there dropping DD off. Spent £79 plus £16 in butcher. This was def a bargain as I got 10 chicken breast fillets for £10, weighed them when I got home and it was over 2.3kg. Also got things for a barbecue tonight, drinks, washing up liquid and d/w tabs - restocked pasta and rice. So hoping wk 4 will be a smaller shop! There are times when this happens to me too. Sometimes so much going on, unwell, or something else. There is always the pressure to keep the meals coming but not necessarily enough time/energy/brainspace to plan properly for shopping.
Calming down a bit now; there are lots of leftovers to use up, so I've managed to spend just £45 at the market this morning to keep the four of us going for a week. And there are some leftover resources - bottled water & fruit juice, crisps & cereal bars etc. - to go towards the second batch of students, who arrive at the end of July; they'll all still be well in date.
My best way of working it all out will be to go through the bank account, work out what else I've bought - and there have been several things replaced this month, and there's £100 to add to the bulk-buy purse, on updates to the oat & flour supplies etc. - and that should tell me how much over-budget I went. Can't do that until next week, as we don't keep the household accounts online, but will Have A Go on Monday or Tuesday.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Evening all
Just a couple of small shops to add this week.
Li*l = £2.41
Morrys = £18.45
This should keep us going for now. We are going to Glasgow for a couple of nights on Monday, as DH has a week's holibobs, so will do my Al*i shop on Thursday when we are back. We will be eating out in Glasgow but that comes out of the holiday fund
Hope you're all enjoying the weekend
