Food has definitely gone up in price. Not only that but the reductions aren't quite as good as they once were, though still helpful.

Spent £30.71 since last posted. Within that £8.28 was on a joint of beef for OH that was originally £14.56. I picked up 1kg of strawberries costing me just £1.70 as reduced in that too.

    £121.26/£150
    £28.74 left.

So true but, as you say, still helpful if it's something you really want/need/can use now or freeze for later. These are questions I ask myself every time I look at the ys shelves and often I'll not bother. Well done with the beef and strawberries though. :)

Another thing that seems to be happening a lot is to keep the item price the same but reduce the content. Example: there's only one particular brand of brown sauce we use, priced at 80p for a small bottle. We've tried others but always go back to this one. The last bottle I got seemed "different" and at first I thought it was because the cap is now black instead of red. On closer examination I found the contents were 5g less than before. I think "they" think we don't notice! ;)
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

Slinking in with a terrible confession; I've totally lost track this month. Quite possibly lost the plot as well... Between our big Festival weekend down here, and having the two German lads - who have been the most delightful guests - I have no idea how much I've spent on food etc. over the last couple of weeks. Too much, for sure! Still solvent, but only just...

Ah well, try again next month...

This is called shrinkflation... Things like the 500g of grapes/margarine are now both 400g, chocolate bars are smaller, etc... Adds up to a massive increase in cost to us when you think about it.

Have had a fairly rubbish week at work and just didn't feel like cooking. In fact, I had no idea still at 4pm what we were having for dinner, which is unheard of for me - I was basically focussing on getting to work today, and nothing beyond that! Anyway, dd informed me that she was going to a friend's for dinner, so ds and I went to @sda to get a pizza. Course, I spent more than that, but I'll tot it up tomorrow. Mostly ys bits.

Only 50p to add to my total this week so far for 2 packets of my favourite crisps that I didn't need.

I have been attempting to eat grain and refined sugar free this week and have discovered an amazing, quick and easy 'bread' recipe which is a keeper and uses stuff I already have in :D I have also made enough southern fried chicken for 3 meals that is grain free and delicious.

This weekend I am going to have a go at making some biscotti for the first time.

I am planning a smaller shop this weekend as I am away Monday and Tuesday with work but do need some lunch bits for DH. I will do a bigger shop for fruit and veg mid week.

    Total stands at £261.53/£290
    Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
    Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
    Make £2021 extra income - £99.75

Have £22.58 left remaining of the budget, 10 days to go, things are going to be tight next month, but luckily the freezers and cupboards are so full I think it would be silly for me to do another big food shop immediately when the new month starts.

  • £162.43 / £225 so far this month with remaining online shop ordered, lots in cupboards, fridge and freezer. Making homemade pizzas for tea and going to try a few new recipes this weekend. Really trying to increase my NSDs as this really does stop unnecessary buying. 14 days to go. Here's hoping!

Slinking in with a terrible confession; I've totally lost track this month.......QUOTE]

There are times when this happens to me too. Sometimes so much going on, unwell, or something else. There is always the pressure to keep the meals coming but not necessarily enough time/energy/brainspace to plan properly for shopping.

Belated Happy Birthday to Furry Beast Oz :)

I seem to have mislaid my receipts, so I am going from the top of my head and rounding up: £5 for cream and strawberries; £17 meat and eggs; £30 supermarket shopping. £52 to adjust my total by after posting.

To echo YorksLass's point above, before putting something in my trolley I question how realistic it is that I will get something used up before it spoils. Because I buy less now, I can see what I already have in the trolley and mentally parcel it out across the days. Although I tend to know now what I have in the fridge at home, a quick photo of it on my phone before I shop is also useful.

Over halfway through the month now. Well done to all who are participating, both on and 'off' the thread.
