MBNA closed new account

Options
Hi all,

I've read the forums for help before as previously my issue had been experienced by someone else so I knew what to do but this time I can't find this.

I'm improving my credit file as I had few late payments of small amounts like £15 because I forgot to pay on time and a few searches then after about 8 months my file started to look good. I become eligibility for lots of card and I did the eligibility checker on MBNA 43 months but it counter offered me 18 months in the eligibility checker which I continued to fill out for a full application and the outcome was a instant accept with a credit limit of £1000.

Few days later I got a letter saying that my account was to be closed due to 'anomalies in the information provided when you applied for the account/subsequent account usage'

I spoke to MBNA on the phone they state I have CIFAS information on which is preventing them from offering me that account. They told me they got this information from Experian and I should contact CIFAS for more information.

BTW I never got the card or pin.

I have access to my Equifax and Experian directly which shows no CIFAS information and also have once a monthly access to Call Credit through Noodle which also shows no record of this information.

What could this be?

You need to check with CIFAS.

Is the only way of checking with CIFAS by SAR?

After a near one month of wondering how I could have got a CIFAS, I got a letter back from CIFAS confirming there is no CIFAS registered against me.

    What should I do now?

I am actually surprised that the MBNA staff member would mention CIFAS simply because the majority of their customers have probably not heard of CIFAS.
Having checked your credit files and found no such information I would suggest you pay attention to what was actually written in the letter
'anomalies in the information provided when you applied for the account'
and try to determine if there were actually any such anomalies.

"anomalies in the information provided when you applied"

Sounds more like National Hunter issues than CIFAS...

Just to be clear, you definitely filled the form out below and paid £10 and they came back to you and said all was clear?

CIFAS usually get back to you within the week (Source: Credit File forum, 3 threads where people applied) which is why I'm curious.

Here's the form for National Hunter SAR:

If you had a CIFAS marker, it wouldn't show up on any of your credit files.

Do you hold any other MBNA cards or held any in the past? If you've held them in the past - did you default on them?

I was unsure as there are no anomalies on the credit file with my name or details so thats when I contacted them and they told me it's CIFAS data that made them close my account.

Yes I wrote to mid May and paid the £10 and they wrote back confirming there are no CIFAS against me.

What sort of data does National Hunter hold?

I've never held a MBNA although my father does and he terminated a car leasing agreement early and it affected his credit file so a few months later MBNA wrote to my father saying they would close down his account once the balance has been paid. He never missed a payment with them or any other creditors. Could this be a reason?

Not unless you are also your father. Credit files belong to individuals.

Basically any and all answers you’ve given previously on credit applications.

The look for discrepancies and anomalies in what you’ve said from one application to another.

    What they say:
We hold the information you provided on your application/s to banks, building societies, and other sectors of the financial services industry who are part of National Hunter. We do not hold details of PPI policies or payments.
