Two settled Wonga loans on my credit file from 2013

Hi,

First post here so sorry if this is the wrong place but I'm feeling really worried.

So I've been getting my free monthly credit reports from Noddle, and after having a bit more of a dig around on one this morning, there are two settled Wonga loans linked to me from 2013.

I've never taken out a payday loan so I've no idea why they're there, but looking at them via the credit report they have my name, dob and the address I was living at.

I don't understand, surely if your identity gets stolen they don't just take out two payday loans, immediately pay them back and then never do anything again?

I'm freaking out as I don't want this to destroy my chances of getting a mortgage in the next couple of years.

I've flagged dispute on the credit report, but what else can/should I do?

Thanks

No need for freak-outage yet. Follow through with the CRAs, and they will ask Wonga to provide evidence.

In the meantime, have you checked your other files?

Experian and Equifax are the other two CRAs.

Raise disputes for any accounts which are not yours.

I will only add that getting the 2quid report every few months is still a good practice, while the free websites should be as accurate, there is a little pain to make sure with the actual source every now and then.
From your use it looks like your details were confused with someone else on the CRAs side (anything criminal wouldn't pay them off), so they will likely go away ;).

OK thank you, so could they still be confused even though the name and address are mine?

Weirder things happened. Keep in mind that they process millions of people and documents, so even something at extremely low odds of happening eventually will happen.

    Hi FlickyK,

It might be a shameless plug but you can get your full Experian Statutory Report through our Credit Club (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/creditclub) and it's free!

I hope this helps and that you're able to get to the bottom of this.

CRA = credit reference agency. There are 3 in the UK - Experian, Equifax and Call Credit.

The free versions to check your credit files are below:
    Experian: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/creditclub
    Call Credit: https://www.noddle.co.uk
    Equifax: https://www.clearscore.com

    Yes.

Do you live in a shared house? Any chance a sibling/friend could have used your details? If not, then just wait and see what Wonga come back with.

It's worth pointing out that there are actually more than three Licensed Credit Reference Agencies in the UK, but those three are the main ones and currently the only ones worth checking.
