I drive a 03 plate mr2 roadster because after test driving several in the range ( mx5 s2000 boxter etc) I liked the mr2 the most paid my 3k 3 and a half years ago and it just keeps running needing minimal maintenance and not costing me a penny.
Did trade plating for a while and drove a 2 year old slk 350 one of my dream cars, genuinely felt let down tbh and couldn't justify what the massive expense would be for.
On the flip side my uncle who is a millionaire I believe, has a 12 year old Suzuki swift and a 13 year old vitara. Was chatting to me about getting a new car and test drove some very expensive cars only to settle on a 4.5k 05 plate mr2 roadster.
I'll run it till it dies even if it's worth 300 quid.
Basically iv test drove more expensive cars and none have justified the extra outlay, although some where better rides there isn't enough of a difference to replace mine0 -

Can't beat an MR2 for fun driving, unless it's a Honda Accord for £6000 -
I was wanting to change my 13 year old car recently but family were having none of it. We were due to go on a long journey and being old fashioned checked the fluid levels. The coolant was non existent. I could have used Radweld but it's not my style. 24 hours later I had fitted a £60 new EIS radiator from ECP. Then a parking sensor went. Connected VAG-COM which told me which one it was. Replacement less than £8 from ebay. After 5 clear years I got an advisory on MOT. Leak from corroded rear exhaust box. £33 for new box. If you keep on top of the maintenance you can keep an old car in perfect condition. I suspect if I had paid a garage to do these jobs the bills might be worrying me.0

2x 03 plates here. Volvo V40 and Golf Tdi. Both now at reasonably high mileage (216,000 and 185,000) but have plenty life left in them and both still on original clutches.
Only worry is that the small print in the roadside recovery says they will only provide cover to maximum of vehicle value and we are getting into the territory where the car's value is probably less than the cost of a garage call-out!0 -
