in Credit cards
Hi all,
I am interested in getting a student credit card because I have heard that by virtue of having one, my credit score will improve. I don't need one, nor will I use it, I think. I would use my current account debit card for purchases and ATM withdrawals. I would only use the credit card for big purchases, to avail of Section 75 protection.
Would it be worth taking out a credit card simply to improve my credit score? Would my credit score improve at all, if I were to only use it occasionally?
Thank you!

You have no credit score, only credit history.
Getting a card and not using it is like not having a card at all.
Get one, use it regularly and clear in full each month.0 -
The idea is to create history to evidence you paying your commitments - not using it is not going to do this.
Only you will see the score so it makes no difference to a lender.
If you do get one, use it for regular purchases and pay off IN FULL on time, every month.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. OP you won't use the cc or you will only use it to get section 75, which is it?0

I have a student one and the only selling point is the "student" in the name. Get a normal card like aqua, which will at least have some advantages such as fee free abroad0
