Smart Meters

Unlike earlier versions, these will show the meter readings but, as you say, not the day/night split for Economy 7. Only the total.0

Hello Raxiel.
Sounds like you, too, have one of the later types of In House Display we now supply with our smart meters. Unlike earlier versions, these will show the meter readings but, as you say, not the day/night split for Economy 7. Only the total. This is something we're looking at for the future.

That seems like a bit of an oversight!
Especially when smart metering is meant to be ushering in an age of demand management and time of day variable pricing.
How much extra would it have cost to design meters and IHD's capable of recording and displaying say 5 different rates rather than just one/two. About the only thing future proofed in the smart meter programme appears to be the profits to be made."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
Or is Economy 7 on its way out in favour of more sophisticated time based rates achievable with smart metering systems?
This is likely to happen in the future, but in effect it would only be a rebranding exercise - the need to separately record and display consumption at different times of day would remain the same."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -

Afternoon lstar337.
It's only our smart In House Displays that don't, as yet, show the day/night split for Economy 7 meters. Our smart Economy 7 meters themselves work in the same way as previous E7 non-smart meters.
As I mentioned the other day in reply to Raxiel, showing day/night readings on the IHD is something we're looking at for the future.
Hope this explains.

MalcThat seems like a bit of an oversight! It does indeed sound odd. Why would EON even bother to change their SMETS1 range of displays when you would like to think they're working on a SMETS2 version? Or is Economy 7 on its way out in favour of more sophisticated time based rates achievable with smart metering systems?
Afternoon victor2 and as above. It's only our smart In House Displays that don't, as yet, show the day/night split for Economy 7 meters. Our smart Economy 7 meters themselves work in the same way as previous E7 non-smart meters.
So far, we've had several different types of display. Some of the first ones didn't show the readings at all regardless of whether the meter was a single rate or Economy 7. We've moved on from these early models and later ones do display the meter reading albeit only as a total for Economy 7. We're looking to further improve the information available through the displays as we develop our smart programme. This includes customers with Economy 7 meters being able to see both their day and night readings. It's currently a work in progress.
Hope this explains.
