According to a recent tv news item, Sky are losing ground, as unlike in the past, when new and retained customers outnumbered leavers ,the opposite is now the case.
    Not the case at all.
    Growth in customer numbers of 769,000 in the last quarter;
Here's a link to Sky's performance in the last quarter
    https://corporate.sky.com/documents/investors/results/2017_results/q3_1617_trading_statement.pdf

I believe the poster may have been referring to Skys CHURN, which is the highest its ever been.
In regard to Skys declaration of an added 769,000, through an act of deliberate obfuscation, no one knows the make up or demographic of that figure. It could be TV, phone, broadband or even NOW TV.

And they don't even report the number of Sky Sports users anymore. Yes, Skys accounts reporting and quarterly and annual results presentations are most certainly opaque to say the least, and have been made deliberately so.

Or even Sky mobile although given their prices for it, maybe not.

After reading the above I will most probably get HD if I go back to Sky but does anyone know if they have resolved the Q teething problems?

This was December last year http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/745998/Sky-Q-Complaints-BBC-Watchdog but doing a quick goggle does show many complaints since then.

Sky don't do HD+ boxes anymore, they only push the Q system.

Presumably you can buy a HD+ box from a 3rd party and get Sky TV on it however what they would charge you would be an unknown.

Don't have a Q box so couldn't answer the other part of your question.

    Yes ; churn.
The report was probably based on a number of surveys, recently, which asked whether you had switched or cancelled in the last 12 months and what companies were involved.

I wonder what will happen to the customer base once the option to retain or return to HD+ is removed. Except for some special offers, Q seems to be a lot more expensive and I , for one, wouldn't even take HD+ without a good discount (had left and meant to stay that way until offered 75% off).

Some just have to have the latest technology, but for others there is a limit to what they are willing or able to pay.
  • I have regular faults with trying to watch on the Q app on my tablet or phone. Very unreliable and I am constantly having to reboot SkyQ and my broadband router. When it works it is brilliant with the fluid viewing but it is too frustrating and expensive.
Fortunately I insisted on the installer putting a new dish up for Q and leaving my existing dish for my Freesat PVR so when I cancel after my 12 month contract I will still be OK.
I will be using Nowtv Entertainment pass and Cinema passes with my Freesat PVR, this will work out MUCH cheaper and no contract.

Sky claim they signed on 769, 000 extra customers, which allows for "churn".

Churn, while high at 11.4%, is not as high as it was in 2007 when it was over 12%.

Not sure what TV show you watched which rubbished Sky's official figures?

I've just been having a look at the options for a mixed Sky Q & HD+ or Freesat option and all you need is a Hybrid LNB on the end of the dish. This has 2 connectors for the Q system and another 4 connectors for either 2 recordable HD+ or Humax style boxes or up to 4 single feed boxes. The shotgun cable of course is exactly the same.

You can already get them on Amazon (£31) but you can ask Sky to fit one when taking up Q although the CS people may try to get awkward, talking to the installer is perhaps a better option.
