Hi there,
I was looking for some advice please.
I was in a non fault accident in October 2015.
Fault admitted and my car was written off.
I was seen by GP day later who told me I had whiplash. I had quite moderate neck and shoulder pain for a good year following. Physio and cortisone injections didnt help.
Was seen by chiropractors to help with alignment of neck as was out.
Currently seeing physio due to muscle tightness, been diagnosed with chronic pain, anxiety and PTSD due to the accident and currently on sertaline and pregablin.
Ortho medical expert recommended I see psychiatrist which I am currently waiting for. I still get shoulder pain, struggle to carry anything heavy & struggle sleeping.
My question is, if you have suffered psychological symptoms due to a car accident with no previous history, were you compensated for this? if so, how much approx?
TIA

I would suggest speaking to a solicitor, every case is different.
Compensation will take account of the injuries you sustained both physically and mentally and the effect on you.0 -
Did you claim through your own insurer, or direct to the other driver's?
Was any injury notified to them as part of that claim?0 -
Most of any compensation claim will be for actual financial loss - where you see big damages pay outs they are typically where someone loses their ability to work and needs ongoing care etc due to their injuries.
There is not a lot of money going for pain etc that doesn't stop you working - you'd possibly get some help with treatment at the insurers expense.Adventure before Dementia!0 -

Really? You were that traumatised by a minor bump.0 -

We don't know how minor the bump was. It was enough to write off the car, at least.
I'm surprised the OP didn't mention being carted off in an ambulance if it was a serious accident.
Anyway speaking of ambulances a lawyer that chases them is your best bet. Compo claims sometimes do need specialist input and an accident so bad to cause PTSD is probably going to need specialist input.0 -
I take it the headrest, which is designed to prevent such an incident, wasn't working properly? You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Some of the assumptions made here based on zero evidence remind me of antics on roundabouts .." because they were in that lane they must have been going to exit".0 -
My comment you've quoted was not an assumption. Quite the opposite - it was countering your assumption that a write-off could not possibly be just a minor bump. It could easily be. We simply don't know from the information we've been given.
Sicard makes a good point - head restraints are designed to prevent precisely this kind of injury. But they DO need to be properly adjusted to the right position for the occupant, just like the rest of the seat. Very few ever are.
Waamo is also right - there's no mention of an ambulance, just a GP appointment the next day. There's clearly some whiplash, for the physical symptoms mentioned to have persisted - but claims of PTSD do raise an eyebrow. What would have happened in a truly serious incident...?0
