Thanks sillyvixen, that makes two of us then! I've started to put the food in at the beginning of convection use rather than waiting 'til the preheating has finished as I would do that in a 'normal' oven if that's any help. I don't know when to use the rack in cooking if anyone can help there? I just put everything on the metal plate if you know what I mean?
I'd love to get the hang of it as I feel like I've just wasted my money on an expensive microwave:o

I have a Russel Hobbs and the rack is fine to use when in microwave or combi mode; my combi is programmable to switch from one type of cooking to the other automatically so I'd have to keep stopping to take it out/put it in :) The rack is really useful to cook 2 items at the same time or for grilling

    just to add, mine is combi oven/grill/microwave - the biggest problem for me was getting used to not using plastic dishes! I use metal when using just the convection/grill and ceramic or silicon dishes for convection/micro;

eta - I don't have a normal cooker - I manage with a combi oven, remoska, slow cooker, toaster and steamer. The only thing I can't cook - as I have no hob - is pancakes. Since the micro part of my combi oven stopped working I bought a cheap argos microwave for less than £30, works brilliantly! I find the combi oven itself is so much quicker than my old cooker oven; I rarely preheat even for sponges and they turn out fine :)

  • What is the model no: of your panasonic oven.

We had a Panasonic Dimension 4 Premier Plus (this has been updated since we bought it 12 years ago.)
Food could be could be put in the convection mode oven without preheating.
We replaced it with a Panasonic oven with an inverter system. It does not have a turntable. Still can't get used to not seeing the dish go round in the oven.
The convection mode on this oven requires preheating. The grill is called into play to heat the oven. The food will burn if it is put into the oven before it is heated to the required temperature.

Thanks for your help, Rosieben, thanks for the link but it doesn't seem to work? beverleyhills it's a NN-CT559W using the inverter system. I'm a bit worried about using the rack, it has rubber feet, won't they melt if I use it for convection cooking? and it seems to be ok to use it in combination cooking...won't it arc? I'm not even sure if I should be heating things directly on the metal plate on top of the glass one or with the rack on top of both of them? The book says small items on the rack...does that mean oven chips etc? Sorry to sound thick, I'm usually fine with cooking but this thing is starting to frighten me!

sorry, the link was to the results of a forum search I did (threads only) for combination oven

I use the rack just like an oven shelf so use baking tins/trays whatever, as you would in a normal oven.

my rack also has rubber feet and they are fine in the convection oven, the microwave and under the grill

  • I LOVE my Combi microwave!!!

cooks a perfect roast in HALF the time! Chicken is wonderful!

You use the metal rack for oven and grill settings!

    Makes WONDERFUL jacket potatoes!

Only problem is I find it can be too small to fit half my trays in and I refuse to buy new ones for the microwave!

However, when mine broke 2 years ago... I didn;t think twice about buying another one!

You can LIVE without an oven when you have one of these :D

I don't have anything to add, except - if you are looking for a combi microwave, make sure it has an oven, not just grill/microwave. And that it has a 40 degree option, which is perfect for proving bread dough. My family now eat my home made bread!!!

Also - cheap models generally aren't worth the money - I've had a Panasonic (good), Daewoo (Pants) and now a £200 Sharp (the best, but a bit of a monster)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

The glass plate is for re-heating/cooking using the microwave function.
The metal tray and rack are for the grill, combination and convection modes.

The 'rubber' feet will stand high temperatures. The metal will probably wear through the bottom of the feet. Replacements are available on line from Panasonic at about £1.26 a set.

I have found Panasonic very helpful when I have contacted them in the past.

Telephone 01344862108. Unfortunately they are only there 3or4 days a weeks 9am-2pm.

http://www.cooking-corner.co.uk/ This is their website. They do have road shows if you are in the right place at the right time.

I worried about that too, but they don't. I think maybe they're silicon rather than rubber (like the silicon baking stuff you can buy).
