I'm on my second combi. I do like them. The only problem is that the one we have now is German, so the automatic recipes are for German style stuff, hence no Baked jacket potato setting, that I used on my old one. My old one was a Panasonic and had an excellent range of programmes. THe updated model is similar I believe.
I have worked it out though....200C and low micro does it! After having the thing for over a year, I decided it's about time to try and use some of the features.
I have a book called The Basic Basics: COmbination and Microwave Handbook, which I find useful.

There's a copy for 1p at the moment!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Thanks purpleivy I have had a micro, convection oven grill for nearly 18 months and i have only ever used it as a microwave.
I just bought one of the 1p books that you mentioned. Think theres another 3 still on there.
So hopefully i will be able to save abit extra this year. I hate putting my fan oven on for just one dish seems so wastefulfurrypig says:my name is Choccy and I am addicted to nose free stamps as I want to save them all and give them noses!!!:rotfl:
About me. Im Choccy or Chocolate orange depending on where i am.Yes occasionally i am a total looon who spends too long online, but no where near as much £ as her spendy elves do ..:D0 -
I have just replaced my 20 year old microwave today ith a combination microwave (half price from argos today £39.99!). No setting for combination cooked baked potatoes- Can any one give me any guidelines on how long to cook an average (fist sized) baked potato using the combination setting please?
I will buy the book recommended above as well- thanks.:oTrying to be thrifty mum of 4!

Hi I have recently bought a Cookworks, Argos own brand, and I too am wondering how to use it doesnt say much for the user friendly hand books that come with these things!! Anyway my main question is whether I can use metal tins and trays when using the convection oven only option? I am beginning to think that this is a variant with each particular model anyone out there know.........?:embarasse0

If the issue is that you have lost the original instruction manual you might be able to download a copy here:
http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/
If you cannot find the one for your precise make and model it is likely that there will be one with similar features.
There are some truly awful translations out there, though!
Does anyone know how to cook an open apple tart or a tarte tatin in a combi microwave? The last time I tried a tart the shortcrust pastry didn't cook on the bottom, but the pastry round the edges went hard.0 -
Hi I've been trawling the forums reading any tips and advice I can find on using a combination oven as I've just bought one and find the instruction booklet lacking. One poster suggested a dedicated thread, I wondered if there is one and I've missed it? I'd be grateful for any advice on recipes, books, websites etc. Thanks:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Our Panasonic Combi is worth its weight in gold. If only for the jacket potatoes that are ready in 15 Min's. (Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

It's a Panasonic that I've bought Ariba10. I've tried the autocook mode a couple of times today. Frozen potato products and pizza. Both times it took so long to preheat that I could have cooked them in my 'normal' oven in less time. Can you tell me if I'm doing something wrong please? The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

i got given a combi microwave about 5 years ago, when our 2nd hand basic microwave went wrong, i hardly use the microwave myself and a friend of the family asked my mum if she knew of anyone who wanted one as she had just had a new kitchen and replaced her microwave with a shiny new one. my housemates were well impressed i had managed to score a free replacement microwave.. it is a big cumbersome thing and no one else wanted it when we went our seperate ways so i kept it - the instructions have been mislaid and i have no idea how to use it other than as a regular microwave. as it keeps working i have no reason to replace it. as for the metal rack the best use i have found for it is cooling cakes!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0
