help how do I use my new combi microwave

My old basic microwave died on me yesterday, so out we went and bought a combination microwave with grill. We live in Spain, so the first thing was to buy one with English instruction book but....the instructions are very basic (have read thro' the french and spanish instructions but they are the same as English ones, so no help there)

Can someone please tell me what the metal rack that comes with all these combi microwaves is for, do I use it when I use grill and combination cooking. If that's the case why is OK to use metal in the microwave, I always thought it was a big no no.

The instruction booklet has a recipe for toast, size 10cm by 10cm by 1cm thick. cooking instruction is, cooking temporarily stop at the middle time. Food is placed on the metal rack.....that's it, you can see why I'm confused

I've tried looking on the web but all I can find are shopping guides for buying a microwave, or instructions on how to use a basic model.

There's also a paragrph in the booklet on multistage cooking, anyone ever heard of this

The microwave cost about the equivalent of £100 so I don't consider it to be a cheap and cheerful buy.

Use the metal thing if you are using it as a grill or an oven.

I don't think it will work if the door is open

I was never sure if you could use the metal thing when it is in combination mode (so using a combination of oven heat and microwave so things brown but fast)....

I am a scaredy cat about stuff like that.
  • I never used the metal rack in mine when I was dual cooking, only for pure baking and grilling..

Try a chicken cooked on Oven AND Microwave... if you have a auto cook poultry thing... you get a large chicken cooked in about 45 mins and a crispy skin and it stays really moist.

you mustn't use the metal rack on anything that uses the microwave(the combination does) and can't use plastic on the oven or grill settings or the combination settings. You must leave the circular glass 'tray' that fits on the bottom in ,during all cooking(well on mine anyway). It is toughened to stand the heat.

    HI,

Combi microwave ovens are brilliant - what make and model is yours? If its a well known make you might be able to get more detailed instructions on the net, but what do I know!

Our combi has different settings so you can have Micro and oven, or micro and grill, you can change the micro power level and also the grill from top to bottom etc so theres loads of diff ways to use it.

Multi stage cooking - I think! - is where you can set it to cook one method and then continue on another. ie Set the timer to start something off using a combi/oven method then continue/finish on say the grill. Another way would be to set the micro timer say for 10 mins at 100% power then 10 mins at 50% power. You could do that with oven temps as well.

    Hope this helps a bit

It's just been one of those weekends!!!!
  • I bought one of these about two years ago as I thought it would be great to grill but I still do not know how to use it and just make my porridge every morning as usual. Will have to spend some time reading the booklet.

Is it a Panasonic? you CAN use the metal rack with combination cooking (Grill + Microwave) (How else would you use the Grill?)but you must put the metal tray on top of the rack., if using combination oven & microwave, you obviously dont need the rack.
