Why do you drive everywhere at 40mph?

All these excuses for these substandard drivers.............

I used to make excuses for them, but i've come to realise that 90% of time they're being passive-aggressive, they know they are bad drivers and they're trying to p*ss people off, so that they do something "stupid" so that Mr smug faced git can sit there having "proven" that another driver is worse than they are.
Typically they are driving to their own highway code and they're trying to enforce this onto other drivers.
I think most people read too much into the thinking of other drivers, especially when it is clear they are not thinking. I've confirmed this to myself time and again when you see an unusual situation come up (awkwardly parked cars on both sides of the road, stray animal etc.) and their response is either to stop because their brains cannot cope with the situation, or blindly drive on at 40mph scattering all and sundry in their path - never had an accident, seen hundreds.

I had one. There is a cut through road where one side of the road has 10-12 parked cars and there are usually gaps. Tradition has it that the clear side of the road bowls through and the other traffic nips into the gaps, though if there is a car coming through past the last car as you round the corner, you may have to slow to let them pass and get back to their side. At one end of the line of parked cars is a bend that restricts view. One day I was passing the parked cars, and nothing was coming, but also unusually there were no gaps. Oncoming car appears round the corner - I'm established, no where to go, oncoming car simply keeps driving at me rather than waiting for me to clear the last couple of cars. I'm wondering how this is going to end, when the other driver, without slowing, simply mounts the kerb and drives along the pavement.
