Got to reply to this one!! Yes, I am of the older generation and am retired but !!!!!! gives all you ****s the need to tell me that I can't go shopping on a Saturday!
If I drive @ 29mph in a 30 limit, what happens?Some/many idiot(s) tailgate me or try to overtake near schools/roundabouts, etc,etc.
What's wrong with taking a little longer to get there? I get more annoyed when people like you think that you own the road and try and force your way from a sliproad onto a motorway/dualcarriage irrespect of whether the outside lane is rammed with traffic leaving me nowhere to go. Get over yourselves.0 -

Totally agree. Near me there's a string of 30mph villages along an otherwise 60mph road.
Almost every time I drive along it I have the driver in front of me disappear as I enter a village only to have a car appear inches from my rear bumper and then, once back into the NSL zone, the car behind me disappears and I'm stuck behind the car in front yet again.0 -

I think you've perhaps misunderstood this thread. It's not people that do 30 (or less) in a 30, it's the drivers that do 40 in a 60 (which is frustrating for those that want to go faster) only to then see that same driver speed at 40 in a 30.
I agree that there's nothing wrong with taking a bit more time to get somewhere, but don't then speed as you go through a village or town. Why not slow down to 30mph?0 -

But this thread isn't about sticking to the speed limits, please read and digest the opening post before commenting, it's about those idiots that do 40mph everywhere, including in 30mph zones.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I think this is actually an ironic post, deliberately aping the style of a Daily Mail comment...0 -
I have a friend who is exactly like this, she drives at 40 or so absolutely everywhere, whether it's a NSL/60 road or a 20. She doesn't pay any attention and she has no idea what speed she is going. We have a road near us that goes from being 60 to 30 in a village with speedbumps every couple dozen metres. Regularly, she'll be going 50 through the 60 and then flies through the village continuing to bumble along at 50, flying over the speed bumps, and she has no idea that she's speeding. I ask her every time she does this, do you know how fast you're going, and she hadn't bothered to look at the speedo so didn't know.
I have no idea how she passed her test, and I generally try to steer clear of being in a car with her...
I agree with the comment that they won't recognise themselves. But I also think for the most part these people are people who don't care about driving that much so wouldn't be on this forum.0 -

Instead of complaining about her, do us all a favour and sledgehammer her kneecaps to get her off the road. Sorted.0 -
Having denigrated the subjects of the original post I will hold my hand up to, on a weekly basis for a couple of years, travelling at 40mph on a straight, wide road in good weather conditions for miles at at time. In fact on this road. Google Streetview Link
And yes - it was annoying to other road users too.
But the reason was to do with the undulating nature of the road surface. And the soft suspension of the car at the time. And it being fairly low slung (yes it's that Mitsubishi Galant again !!!). So much so that anything over 40 meant that something (probably the mudflaps) kept scraping the road and the girlfriend got car sick.
So its not always obvious why the doodlebug in front is doodling ... though this particular one did slow for the 30 limit a bit further along.0 -
There's no obligation to drive at the maximum speed allowed. Each person has a right to drive at the speed they want and feel safe driving at so long as it doesn't cause a danger. I'd say 40mph in a 60 zone is quite acceptable but under 30 probably not. You can always overtake when safe to do so.0
