What made this computer "extremely fragile"?

Or the person bimbling along can pull in when safe to do so to let others pass :)

I did a west coast road tour last September and apart from finding the American drivers a damned site more polite than us Brits they also practice this all the time especially over mountain roads (Tioga pass).

    Could be due to this.

I followed one of these into town today.

35-40mph through village. 35-40mph along clear straight NSL.

Except the dopy sod simply drove down the centreline of the road as soon as it got straight and clear... No way past. 17-plate Kia, of course. We got to town, he took about ten minute to park in a space you could have fitted a truck in. At one stage, he was nearer perpendicular to the kerb than parallel...

Sometimes you can't avoid driving slowly. A few months ago I was carrying an extremely fragile computer in my boot that came with no packaging, and had to drive it back from work in my car with rock hard tyres/suspension, on extremely bumpy / pothole-full roads. I drove at 20mph the whole way - and it's 60 all the way. I had a massive queue behind me. I felt bad, but at the end of the day, it was unavoidable and well this sort of thing happens from time to time. It was a 10 minute journey and it's one of only a handful of times I've had to drive slowly. But you never know, there may be a reason someone is driving slow.

No corrugated cardboard around your workplace then? a few items of clothing can also be used to cushion the area.

I had one earlier on motorway, doing about 60 behind the car in front (not close), no big deal, not going to overtake as we were approaching the 50 zone with average speed cameras and I come off the next junction shortly after it starts.

Get to the 50 zone, I'm doing 50 and now suddenly I'm getting closer to them! I have this all the time, over cautious !!!!!!!s.

I find that 50 is usually a good speed on normal 60 limit roads that balances progress with saving fuel but a lot of people have little interest in fuel saving. I would probably do 60 on a motorway as 50 would feel a bit slow. If I'm going up a hill I will probably slow down a bit as to me the key to good driving is saving fuel but not going unnecessarily slow.

That's nice, but I'm not really sure what it has to do with this thread (unless you are saying you also do 50mph in a 30 zone?).

There's no obligation to drive at the maximum speed allowed. Each person has a right to drive at the speed they want and feel safe driving at so long as it doesn't cause a danger. I'd say 40mph in a 60 zone is quite acceptable but under 30 probably not. You can always overtake when safe to do so.

wrong, doing 40 in a 60 would fail the driving test.

like the Op I see so many of these idiots who are oblivious to everything around them

My conclusion is that they don't understand speed limits so default to 40mph
