Hi folks.
As above: does anyone know if they are permitted?
I would have thought not, but what do I know.
Is there a section on car tools that can/cannot be taken?
Probably not, but if you don't ask etc. ..

I would certainly carry a set of jump leads in my carry-on, if the need to do so arose. There's nothing offensive or dangerous about them and I wouldn't expect any problem.Evolution, not revolution0

They make an effective garrotte, and you might therefore be prohibited from carrying them on. That said, they are an unusual item and might get passed screening. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

the metal on them will cause your bag to be searched, probably best to remove them and place them separately in the tray going through X-raySave 12k in 2020 #19 £12,429.06/£14,0000

Why do you want them with you ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

No. The only problem with metal is if you're wearing any when you walk through the scanner.the metal on them will cause your bag to be searched, probably best to remove them and place them separately in the tray going through X-ray
There's metal of some kind inside nearly every cabin bag and they don't search the lot.0 -
Many things could be used as a garrotte, more effective and less clumsy than car jumper cables. For example, the phone USB cable that we carry. But they are not prohibited in hand luggage. They make an effective garrotte, and you might therefore be prohibited from carrying them on. Tools are forbidden in hand luggage. I've had a number confiscated when I've forgotten they are in my bag.
including:
screwdrivers
Duct Tape (new roll too boo)
Small Spanners
Cable ties (long ones).
Have I argued about all of them? yes.
Would I risk trying to get jump leads on? No.0 -
