Passport renewal

What is the average time for a passport renewal to come back? We go away at the end of May and we were advised to renew my husbands passport as his expires in September. It has been sent off but it isn't back yet. The online service says we need to allow 3 weeks, will this arrive in time? And if it doesn't, what do we do?

It really depends on how busy they are. I would reckon you will have it back in good time if all forms, photos etc are correct
If it doesn't then you could look at costs to change dates of holiday (hopefully won't come to that)

It went through the new online system, where you upload your own photo (it rejected several before one of the photos was accepted into their system) and then we needed to post the old one back. The online forms all seemed to work okay, and the passport has gone off to them by next day delivery, and we can track progress online.

Just having a panic, with the bank holiday, it is only 19 working days until we are due to go.

It's a shame you were advised you needed to renew it with so little time to spare, unless you're going to somewhere off the usual holiday destination beaten track it's highly unlikely it needed renewing at all.

All the renewals I have done recently have come back within a week. How long has it been so far?

It went on Friday just before the bank holiday - so not long. It was one of those difficult ones, under 3 months before it expired. My husband has just lost his mum, so he has been stressed and worried about other things, so unusual circumstances for us.

well youve been given duff info then.

croatia is now part of the EU and as such cannot refuse you as long as your passport is valid, which your husbands would have been.

and for info i recently renewed and it took 3 weeks.

I renewed within the past month and had the new one back within 10 working days, so two weeks. After sending the old one back, I had an email within a couple of days saying that it had been received and application approved. New passport came 3 days later - return of the old one was about a week after that.

I think you have a good chance to get it back in time - don't worry yet! :)

My husbands recent renewal was processed pretty quickly (a week) however DX delivery was shocking and never turned up on the day they said they would!
