Used car tax, v5c only has 11 not 12 digits!?

If they had the car for a long time there is no reason for them to have a new red one. The government encouraged people to swap them but it was never enforced upon people. And some people just don't care or didn't hear about it.

Didn't they send the new style ones out automatically then? I got two without applying for them.

Ive had a car SORN'd for a long long time and they sent me a new V5C to replace the older one. And they said they have just bought it. So i would be worried its a log book loan.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/dvla-encourages-motorists-to-get-a-red-vehicle-registration-certificate#history I am going by this page but its a little ambiguous as it says the old ones will be changed when the vehicle is taxed or SORNd among other things but it goes on to say at the bottom the blue ones remain valid until changed.

Its a good point to raise. OP did you do a HPI check on the car before purchasing.

It was bought trade and the v5c showed one owner from new in 2006. I ran the hpi check but not the full one that shows outstanding finance. Thought it wasn't worth it for a £1500 car that's over 10 years old.

Does the doc ref show as the most recent one when you put it into vehicle enquiry?

Put a zero in front of your 11 digit number - worked for me recently :beer:
