Used car tax, v5c only has 11 not 12 digits!?
Hey All
Bought a used car today and trying to get it taxed online I need to enter a 12 digit number on the v5c/2 but its only got 11 on there. Tried adding a 0 to the start and end like I`ve seen mentioned online but still doesnt work. Seems the only way is to goto the post office, which isnt open until Tuesday.
Any ideas? Its taxed from the previous owner, would I be able to drive it until tuesday and then get it taxed?
Thanks

I've never seen a V5C/2 with only 11 numbers, Are you sure you are not looking at the V5C as that only has 11. The V5C/2 is the green slip.0

Do you actually have the V5C/2 it is the green new keeper slip from the back page of the V5C?0

Yup its a v5c/2 and has 11 numbers.0

Just came across this tweet from the dvla.

@Griffo_Jamie Hi Jamie, if your V5C/2 only has 11 digits, please tax at the Post Office on this occasion.
So question is can I not legally drive the car now until tuesday? even though its still showing as taxed on the dvla website by the previous owner.
Oh how I miss the tax disc.0 -

Is it this slip you are looking at. The number you need is the Doc. Ref. No. That you need near the bottom at the right hand side.0 -
Yes doc. ref. No. . Seems its an older style of v5c and the helpful bunch at dvla cant change their computer to deal with 11 digits.0

In that case technically no you should not drive it as technically its not taxed as the tax ends when the vehicle is sold and they will take that date from the V5C. On the other hand. Nothing will be processed till it is received in Cardiff. So if you want to risk it then its up to you.0 -

If it's been sent to Cardiff it won't get processed.0 -

Sorry my company is based in Cardiff. Might be as much hope of it being processed in Cardiff as in Swansea sometimes.0 -
