Paint - an optional extra

This!!! They also don't tell you about the "forecourt tax" that is taken off the value of the car the second you begin to drive it home for the first time!
I can see both sides of it - its nice to have a brand new car to your own specification although you do pay a significant premium for that first years ownership. Also, people tend to go for the "well i bought my ex-demo car for £20K so saved £5,000 off the list price of a new one" - but who pays list?
A lot of new cars are PCP'd or PCH'd though, so "depreciation" becomes a moot point as its down the whether or not the monthly payments are palatable.
Likewise there can be a significant saving by buying slightly used.0 -
I see that Nissan are up to their old tricks again
The new Micra (from about £11,500 for a 900cc version !!) is available only in "beige" unless you pay extra for a different colour - since "beige" is not a very nice car colour - Nissan are effectively making paint an optional extra !!A-V-O-I-D !!
Why are you surprised by this?
Its a common upselling tactic - everybody uses it. Quote a low headline price then upsell on the extras.
Do you think Tescos are expecting you to only go in and buy one of their loaves at say 59p? Or PC World would make a living if everyone just bought the "Bank Holiday weekend" Specials?0 -
Back in the 80's and 90's you couldn't give white cars away, their resale value was always below practically any other colour, including beige.
White has been the most common no cost paint option for the last few years... and the most popular colour for new cars.0 -

White has been a cost option for a few years now, I had to pay around £900 for my white paint.0 -
White moved from pariah to default at about the time the Police moved from white to silver cars.0

Road salt brown is the most common colour in the UK during the winter months, plus it adds the concept of avoiding speeding tickets because they cant read the number plates most commonly done at the M4 M5 interchange.0

Why make the only free paint beige ?
Surely white or red would have cost the same ?
But beige being a disgusting colour means they get more people paying for an option...
Ohiyo Gozeimas (Good Day in Japanese)/ Bonjour Nissan,
Please be advised that 50Twuncle is the world's exclusive authority on colours and what he says goes. Please ensure that you run any colour schemes past 50Twuncle before you release them to the general public. He doesn't like beige, so that means that no one else must like it either.
Arigato Gozeimas (Thank you very much)/Merci Beaucoups

Basically, just because you don't like the colour beige doesn't mean that everyone shares your opinion.0 -

Considering the K14 Micra is a Europe-only model at the moment, and isn't going to be built in Japan at all, you might be better off with French than Japanese...0
