Broadband could only give me 4.5Meg speed on a good day but lately, nearly 2 weeks, speed is down to 2.5-3.5 (stop laughing)so I contacted Sky and was told that they know there are problems in the area and investigating. Long story short BT can give me Faster Broadband ie 9 Meg min so being out of contract I have voted with my feet and left Sky. No problem here ...however.
Called Sky to see if I stay with them for their TV package, also out of contract, or go with BT. They offer me SKY Q 2 TB box and Q mini for £65 and £50 as well as me up grading my package by another £12.00 for movies. All still good and not a bad Idea I hear you all say...
Going through the list of costs the sales person stammers and there will be a £10 admin fee.
So if you are thinking of Upgrading your package beware SKY will stick you with a £10 charge for the pleasure of being "given a discount" .
Told them (politley) to stick it up their a~~e. Cancelled TV as well.
So wait you did not like the broadband speed but you were tempted to stay when they offered you a new package?... so the broadband speed was not really a big issue?
With this new offer how much more money were you saving over the old deal? I assume the £10 was enough to make it more expensive that you decided to leave? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Slightly dubious that BT can offer you faster speeds than Sky. Both Sky and BT use the same network.
That's what I was thinking, if it's a general network problem and not just specific to Sky's unbundled bit then changing providers will make no difference despite what the BT saleperson may say.0 -

I think they're talking about the TV package only although since they give no other info (not even if they refused to pay the £10 let alone what they're on) it's a pointless thread.0 -

Did you actually check online, what speed range BT can offer , as the 'up to' phrase is often used to give a false impression (like 'up to 75% off' in sales, where only a couple of items are so reduced)?0 -
We got to the admin fee and yes i agree they were spluttering. I told them it was outrageous and not yo bother going ahead with my uograde. They soon credited the admin charge back.
Dont just accept the chargemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
You may want to bring this to the attention of martin. If they not told you get it back, I did
Sky products warning. Any one thinking of upgrading or changing package with Sky please be aware that they have a hidden £10 admin fee. Check your online bill as its a new addition during the past few months. They suppose to tell you however seem to forget and add it discreetly to your bill. I found mine next to a Video charge. If Sky's half a million customers change their plan in any way Sky makes a mint.
ChrisRememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.

They are supposed to notify you in advance of the value of the DD, normally this is ten working days before the payment is taken. Relying on that is ok if you are billed in advance and can switch between the notice and the payment being taken. If you're billed in arrears then it's too late.
If you don't see the notification then unfortunately it's your own fault, if they didn't provide one then you may be able to get them to back down if you threaten ofcom.0 -

No they don't, it's a variable DD (regardless if yours changes or not) and they're not required to tell you each and every month that your payment is due.0
