But the OP would have had time to remove their passport and boarding card-so why not the cash too? I can understand how it might get momentarily forgotten in these circumstances, but the liability remains with the OP and no-one else.
Even if it was covered by insurance, then there is no way of proving the loss.
Not necessarily. I Carry my passport and boarding card in my pocket becuase you need youtpr passport when leaving the gate and the boarding card on the plane.
I do sympathise as they were take by surprise.
Personally i don't take foreign cash and get it at an ATM on arrival.0 -

Airlines have to employ handling agents to deal with baggage at the airport and it's these agents that take control of the bags once they have gone on the belts at the check in desks.
The airlines are normally charged a fee for each bag so if a passenger takes all of their stuff into the cabin, the airline saves a bit of money.
Fewer bags checked in also means a quicker turnover of passengers at the check in desks so another win for the airlines.
To some extent, more so on short flights where you have less passengers.
However, when you have an Airbus A380 where most of the 500+ passengers have both hold luggage and and aforementined oversized carry on this can cause a long delay. Indeed we ended up missing our allocated take off time on the way home as a direct result.
The financial cost for missing an allocated slot is not insignificant. Furthermore if you then sit on the tarmac for 30minutes or so, there is a good chance the plane will also miss its allocated take off on the return flight due to short turnaround times.
I never witnessed any passengers having their hand luggage checked either on the way out or the way back.0 -
There appears no concrete answer about hand luggage/hold luggage regarding valubles, however there is no way £1200 would be leaving my secure pocket whilst travelling.0
