I'm not even sure where to post this Q so have put it in consumer
As ALL online forms seems to be automated these days, you add in your postcode then your given the option to choose your address from the dropdown...the name of our house is wrong and for the life of me I cannot find a way of contacting who is responsible to have it changed.
Twice today Ive had an argument with people over this as they wanted to use the address as shown on the automatic dropdown, telling me my house name must be wrong when I try to correct them...I say NO the automatated system has it wrong!
I also had the same issue myself renewing my driving licence and now have on the automatic form the correct house name and the wrong house name as there was no way of deleting the incorrect one.
I am getting quite P***ed off with this now.
WHO the heck do I contact to have this changed.??
Incidentally our council tax, official paperwork and all letters come to us with the correct address.

Although it can take months for the change to be picked up by other businesses systems.0 -
Just wanted to add - not all businesses and websites talk directly to Royal Mail's database. The data is not open and free to everyone, as it should be. Address data is resold by countless resellers who source it from many different places, including Royal Mail. Sometimes this is supplied in files that are costly for businesses to keep up to date. Also, there are some addresses that are only recognised as valid by Royal Mail and some that are only recongised by the local government. This is especially common with new builds.
Check whether it is correct here already before using lovinituk's link: http://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode . If it is not, use the form lovinituk posted. Once the change is visible, you should tell companies their address data is out of date and refer them to that link if they don't believe you.
Best of luck!0 -
All you generally need is the post code and the house number. The street, city, county and anything else is just there to help the postman. If you have given your house a name then that is totally irrelevant as are townlands and other elements that some people include in their address.
All that is important is that the delivery companies can find the address and hand over the items.IITYYHTBMAD0 -

Do you realise that some houses only have a name and no number?IITYYHTBMAD0

Many years ago there was an exercise to ensure all houses had a number (I can't say if that got completed to 100% or not) - but you could technically call your house anything you wanted and use that as a mailing address.
Type 'Bell Lane Bedmond' into RM's postcode finder and you will see forty houses all with a name but no number.0 -
Well here's just one street that I know of.

No house in that road has had a number for the last forty years at least.
Here's another example -
Type 'kinnerton presteigne' into RM's Postcode finder and you'll see a whole village of over 50 addresses and very few have numbers. Most have no road name in their address but that's by the by.0 -
Trust me, I know that road.

I am sure if the OP contacts who ever is responsible then they will have a procedure and charging structure for getting their details updated similarly. However it could take months or years before it gets rippled out to all online forms.IITYYHTBMAD0 -
When I moved into a "new build" I wanted to stick with TalkTalk as my phone provider. They couldn't/wouldn't enter into a contract with me because their databases didn't recognise the address. This in spite of RM delivering letters as I was on RM database, the Council sending me my Council Tax bill, various delivery companies being able to find me.
TT explained that they use different databases in their system, but goodness knows what they are, they certainly didn't use RM or the local council's!
My new home was 5 minutes walk from my old one. On an existing road with just 3 new homes placed on a plot and numbered a,b and c of an existing house number.
I still have difficulties completing forms on some websites where the a, b and c houses don't appear over 5 years after moving.0
