I see similar several times a day. People just reverse out of their drives straight into the road, sometimes nearly taking the toecaps off my boots as I am walking past on the pavement.
What I think happens is they carefully check in all directions before they get into the car, then get in, start up, adjust the seats and mirrors, and then back out, secure in the knowledge that nothing is coming, because they have already checked and the road is clear.
If something does hit them, it is because the other car was driving so massively in excess of the speed limit that it "appeared from nowhere"I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
