HELP grey areas??

Hi all.

I need some help for my situation, I'm married and my husband serves in the forces, he's posted to BFG & I'm here in the UK we have a child under 3years old together and I do not work. His monthly earnings comes in at £1600 and £700 of this he sends home to me. As stated I don't work and from what the government websites are saying that because we're married and he works full time (despite it being overseas & him paying out rent/bills etc) im not entitled to anything not housing benefit, income support.. nothing. I get £13 a week off tax credits & I can't afford to live in my own home off the money provided by him & the monthly £80 of child benefit.. surely I must be entitled to something to help me out? .. we don't get the living overseas allowances as I've chose to not accompany him over there.

The benefit system just seems to have grey areas around armed forces & their spouses. Please someone help me!!

Thank you :)

He's sending not even half of his income home. I'm assuming he doesn't have expenses for living there (all of my forces friends come home with more money than they know what to do with) where is the £900 going?

Why does he have rent to pay on an army posting?

Anyway you can't afford to run two houses on that money and benefits won't help you to do that.

I expect this is the problem

OP, you have not said why you have chosen not to go with your husband. From your post it sounds like you are in rented accommodation and do not work so why not move as a family?
Did you know in advance of making the decision not to go that you would be in this position regarding him having to keep 2 properties going on one wage?
If you have stayed behind because of other family commitments, would this family be able to do childcare to allow you to work?

Gosh, need for the narky replies. I've chosen not to go after out Cyprus posting as it serverly affected my mental state living under military law, unless you've lived army life you have no idea!!!!!!!! yes I know he doesn't send me all his wage but that's because £400 is straight out for an ongoing car loan from Cyprus & he pays his rent & bills. Food is not included & it's far more expensive abroad than in the UK. All in all he's £100 a week to live off abroad! Me going there is NO OPTION!

He can't afford the car loan.

Benefits are not to run two households and pay for a £400 car loan.

Does that not make sense to you?

Is he not living in the block as a cheaper option for him?

If so they would take his food at source as he would eat in the mess/cook house or whatever they call it and give you a huge saving.

Why should you be subsidised as you chose not to accompany him.

& not every armed forces person is mega rich! It's based on rank & what service you're in for a kick off.

Just a simple yes or no to my question would have been suffice not a whole load of judging about my situation get !!!!ed the lot of you.

It's a bit bonkers years ago living in a "block" was like £20 a month breakfast included.. overseas for example on our Cyprus posting we paid no rent for our house, no ciloct, no tv license but the lads in the blocks paid rent & ciloct etc

Your question wasn't a yes/no question. People tried to explain to you what you didn't understand.

Anyway, to put it bluntly, NO.

You say you are entitled to nothing but receive child benefit and tax credits. Is that not something?

You say you going there isn't an option but it is still your personal choice and you won't get benefits as a single person because you choose not to live with your husband.
