Gosh, I think this is going to be tricky....

I have already had words with my sister who 'knows for a fact' that the Financial Services Compensation Scheme is £75,000 per bank...
she is insisting that I move any excess balance to her Barclays current account. I was planning on just popping it into a Nationwide Loyalty Savers at 0.75%.......

Hey ho, let the games begin.

This figure is now £85 000............

  • Thanks, I've sent her the link... maybe she will believe you (she definitely doesn't trust anything I say) :o

    Thank you.
I'm now guessing that the 'sealed copy' was sent to mum.
My documentation has nothing other than typed information on it.

I've got certified copies of the POA I have for my mum, it's a complete copy of the document from the Office of the Public Guardian (we're in Scotland) - the front page is the confirmation of registration and has the seal on it. The original has a red seal, mine are photocopies but they do need the seal and registration number.

Good luck with the banks. My mum only has two, luckily I also have accounts with the same banks so they didn't have to ID me. Now I can see her accounts when I log into mine.

    Thank you.
I've got accounts at my mums banks too hopefully it should be fairly straight forward.

I think I need advice about dealing with siblings and mums accounts/money.....
any hints or suggestions so we can avoid falling out?

I have checked with the relative whose relative has accounts (bank/savings/stocks and shares etc) with a number of institutions.

When he needed to present the PoA at a branch, an appointment was needed and he took the original.

A certified copy was sent by recorded delivery when accounts were opened by post.

Thanks, so it seems quite long winded.
I was expecting it to be , but was hoping that I could speed it up by registering mum for online banking.
Probably not, as now I have written it down it sounds quite illegal

Technically you can indeed just register for online banking in her name, but it's a breach of the T&C's.

2 years ago Nationwide weren't allowing internet access. However as the interest rate was so good for instant access I did use it, but moved it in larger lumps than I would have with it. Both Barclays and Halifax did allow it.

Yes, that did help quite a bit when I did my Mum's. But you will need to find the original if you don't have an official/certified copy.
