Princes park & lordswood are nice areas of Chatham. Avoiding luton & weedswood areas.0

I really wouldnt consider shared ownership its such a con you never fully own the place and when it comes to selling buyers cant use the SO scheme so will struggle to buy anyone out due to so many coming on the market as people try climbing the ladder. Plus these new builds have high charges which you pay 100% of0

North Kent is perfectly within his budget if he is happy with a 1/2 bed property in a decent (not amazing area). Dartford, Gravesend and Medway are all well within his price range. There are a lot of nice 1 and 2 beds in Medway and the Lordswood/Walderslade area all very popular with commuters.0

Also parts of Gillingham also not nice, perhaps cheap for a reason? Avoid Medway
There are plenty of parts of Medway that are nice. Unfortunately Medways reputation is oddly unfavourable.
Avoid Luton and Lower Gillingham and around the centre of Chatham and you'll be fine. There are some very nice places in Rochester, Rainham and Walderslade/Lordswood.
Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham all have stations that run the High Speed into St Pancras and fast trains to other stations and easy access to the M2/A2 and M25.0 -
Tonbridge may be an option as rental prices at least are starting to come down a little...he'd still likely only get a 1 bed flat, but it's a lovely town and excellent transport links.
Maidstone is starting to get more and more expensive but there may still be some bargains.
As for Medway - I don't know it intimately but driving down Gillingham High Street was grim. I am sure there are nice parts of Gillingham/Chatham, etc, but overall the area is still very industrial and I never feel "comfortable" there. Parts do have cheap housing, though.0 -
How about Crawley or Redhill, or a little further Horsham / Littlehaven?
Entirely possible to get 1-bed non-Shared Ownership flats for that budget.0 -
Snodland might fit the bill. It has potential links both North and West to the M25, useable at least early in the morning.
If he wants Surrey then maybe Redhill, but it is probably just outside his price range.0 -
I mentioned before that there were SW possibilities. I didn't list them, because I have no idea what they are like. But Farnborough, Aldershot, Camberley, Woking and Horsham all come up in searches.0

Wokingham.
I think optimum would be the least deprived area with the least house prices.0 -
Hiya, We live in Kent and to be honest, I wouldn't move to Medway. We live 15 minute drive away, and I dread going haha. But, unfortuntately only way we can get onto the ladder is by a help to buy scheme, and we feel like we're having to move out our town/county all together because we cannot afford the 240k they ask for. We rent and have 3 children, so moving back home isn't really an option. However we have been told we can move back if we reserve a plot and focus 10 months on the savings rent free. Margate, Thanet is cheaper, but then again is really out of the way. x0
