Wireless - please help me

OK - before checking the router set-up just try the following:

On the laptop, go to Start -> Run and type in cmd

When the Command Prompt opens (white text on black background) just type in undet the blinking cursor ping https://www.bbc.co.uk

Let me know if u get a response time or request timed out.

I got this -

'bbc.co.uk' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable programme or batch file

you need to type:

ping https://www.bbc.co.uk

you also get his if the firewall is blocking access, had to delete zonealarm and install sygate on a few machines to get this to work

it'll check whether you are connected to the world wide web, bypassing IE settings.

If the "PING WWW.BBC.CO.UK" gives a response then your modem/router set-up is fine.

did it say "request timed out"

or did it do 4 pings with a response time in "x ms"

Dont want to sound more !!!!!! than i already do but i am on a normal modem at the moment not the router modem! although you probably already gathered that, so how does that check the router?

Doh!!!!

Plug your phone line into the router/modem and try exactly the same ping Command.
