We always pay extra for our seats, so one of us can have the window seat and the one next to it. 3 years ago a young man wearing a hoody sat in the aisle seat sat down and promptly announced 'I want to sit in the window seat, as I am going to sleep and will not move for you to go to the toilet'.

We informed the young man that we had paid extra for the window seat and he would need to sit in his allocated seat. My husband is not a small man promptly sat in the middle seat and made the young man move every 45 minutes for him to go to the toilet, on the 4 hour flight.

Needless to say the young man was not happy with this and wittered a bucketful when my husband was not there. I just ignored him.

I personally think that someone who needs to go to the toilet frequently should sit in an aisle seat or pay for extra legroom seats so that they can get out without disturbing the other passengers.

You took the window seat and didn't have to keep moving for your husband - once every 45 minutes does sound excessive. But you pay your money and take your choice and after that experience maybe the young man will pay for a window seat if he wants to sleep throughout the journey.

I'd have reported the arrogant !!!!!! to cabin crew. You'd have had a decent chance of an empty seat next you.

We like the window seat as we usually either read or sleep for the most part of the journey. I personally don't like an aisle seat since being on board next to drunken passengers which were violent and the flight had to be diverted to Sofia in Bulgaria to remove them from the plane.

This has left me very nervous at sitting next to anyone on flights.

When it is 3-4-3 seat, I usually pick seat E or H, i.e. aisle seat in the middle. So you would only have 1 person disturbing...

Never recline my seat in economy, and it depends on the distance between rows in business (when I'm that lucky). I can sleep on a clothes line, and I'm 5'3", so just curl up against the window. I find it cosy.

You should ask for a bassinet.

I think with your preference for both having aisle seats you always run the risk of having someone 'awkward' on your inside.

To have a 2 year old sat on his own I would say was just particularly unlucky in this situation.

I ask for an aisle seat as once I had a window seat, the couple who had the seats next to me fell asleep within a couple mins of taking off and I needed the loo! I had the embarrassing thing of asking the air hostess to wake them up. It's a good job I did as the airport I landed at didn't have loos until after passport control!! This plane was a 3-3 seating arrangement

I cannot sleep on planes - the time of flight and amount of sleep I had previous night makes no difference. I'm so jealous of anyone that can get a decent sleep on planes and other modes transport. My mum can sleep through take off - you know how noisy the engines get to do this!

The two seats next to the aisle in the central row are by far the best for a couple.

But now we travel BC long haul so don't have a problem.
