Charged for Excess Wifi at Holiday Lodge

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had similar experience.
We have returned from a lovely weekend away at a holiday lodge with our small children.
On our return home we received a rather abrupt text from the owner saying we abused their wifi and it went over their monthly limit by £157. He now wants us to refund.
Firstly, we hardly used the Wi-Fi as we were out most of the time. We have 2 very small children who don't use tablets etc. We listened to some music on spotify and checked some emails.
The bill quotes usage during times when we were not in the lodge.
Any advice where we stand on this? I have offered a contribution towards the costs as a good will gesture but the more I think about it the more mad I am getting!
Thanks
C

It is down to the owner to show you some proof of this and then if you can disprove the times your end ie:- any receipts or bookings you may have had that show times you were out against the bill he claims you owe for then just show this to him and say sorry not happening.
Perhaps he does this to everyone in the hopes that people will just cough up, Nice additional profit for him, Failing this he could also see that an error was made on the internet providers side and then it is down to him to sort it out.0 -
Thanks,
He has itemised usage and date but not times. We have proof that we were not there on some of those days for considerable periods so this could help.
Also, he sent usage for the day before we arrived and this is also high, similar to the usage he claimed we had. Could there be piggybacking going on?0 -
Is there a limit stated in the contract?0

Could well be and I'd try and talk to him first and if you get nowhere then just say seek it via the legal route, Stand firm and hope that it gets sorted out but if what you say is 100% true and you strongly believe you have not hammered the internet whilst there then don't pay it.
He does need to prove it still.0 -
Hi
Did you sign any t&cs stating that wifi was limited? if not I would ignore (unless of course you paid a security bond) which might cause you problems.
Just tell him you will not pay!

If it's a lodge on a park, then it'd be possible for frequent visitors to keep the login details over the years/visits and use them on a whim when they're booked into lodges adjacent to his. If you visited the same park 3-4x a year, then after 3-4 years you'd have quite a collection of logins! "just in case"
If it wasn't in the contract and if he can't prove you did then he can go and do a hike. It's his responsibility to ensure his system is secured against others using the facility.0 -
If an excess charge is not in the T&Cs and there are discrepancies in the time log withdraw your goodwill gesture and tell them to do one.0

Unless it says somethng about this in the contract it his problem. What does he mean by high useage. One film can use gigabytes, a phone software update can use lots, and there has quite a few of them recently.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

How much data was used? and is the Wifi secured with a password?
But I wouldn't be paying it under any circumstances because they shouldn't have Wifi with a monthly limit in a holiday lodge and not even tell the people staying there.0
