Win 10 creators edition

It is essentially a service pack. Those don't tend to have new features, just little tweaks and mainly under the hood changes.I have just updated my laptop to Creators Edition and so far are extremely unimpressed
I was running Professional (1703) I think) which I was happyish with
But on updating - I see no improvement at all
That's never been possible in Windows 10 I think. All the updates are cumulative so you are always up to date if you install one.I see several mistakes by MS - such as missing the ability to check what updates are already installed
Just like the previous major updates to Windows 10. You download the whole OS.It was a large download - and took me the best part of an hour to get it up and running
If you don't manually upgrade you will eventually auto upgrade as it hits Windows Update.Don't bother unless you are bored........0 -
There are some other things, for example.
Powershell has replaced cmd on the quick access toolbar from the start button (cmd does still exist for now).
Game mode has been added to give games more resources over the rest of the system and help boost performance.
Night mode has been introduced to help reduce screen glare at night.
VPN has been changed so that you can connect to a VPN quicker without having to go into a second menu.
Control Panel has been removed from the quick access toolbar from start but does still exist.
Microsoft have announced they are now on a 6 month upgrade cycle with new releases coming every September and March so expect 1709 later in the year. Free upgrades every 6 months, you can't complain really.
Our only problem is that an agent we run at the office isn't yet supported by 1703 so we are having to wait a little while before we upgrade them all.0 -
Ok, so I'm sure this was tongue in cheek (wasn't it?)... but taking the view of your average home user......Free upgrades every 6 months, you can't complain really.
1. an upgrade can only be called an upgrade if it gives some benefit. Removing Control Panel from the quick access toolbar? Yep, great job.
2. is rebuilding your computer twice a year progress?0 -
The definitive Windows 10 Creators Update review
Go to Settings>System>About, OS Build 15063.138 is the update to Creators0 -
But no signs of any changes to the OS itself
Are you a programmer with the ability to look at code and see what has changed? No? Then you're likely to not notice very much. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You can change it back to Cmd ...........There are some other things, for example.
Powershell has replaced cmd on the quick access toolbar from the start button (cmd does still exist for now).

Settings - Personalisation - Taskbar - Replace Command Prompt etc. - Toggle on or off.
Pointless though as AFAIK it works the same if you want to run a cmd...Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Mint is a better brand than Ubuntu (Debian was better than that) so maybe this will be the year of Unix, after all they have been saying it for about 35 years!
I am still waiting for the GUI clone of Win7, not just the superficial one, every dialog plus of course 100% compatibility. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
Why do Linux users feel the need to point out that they use Linux whenever someone starts a W10 thread ?!
Makes me chuckle (and yawn)
Disclaimer : I also use Linux for some stuff0
