I did the first shop of the month last night. We have a new Tesco opened up near us & they sent me £4 off £20 vouchers so used these in conjunction with a few coupons & got a £42.52 shop for £28.83 so was very happy. It didn't stock a few things but for that saving I can afford to go to Sainsburys & still be in profit!

As far as I can tell that's exactly the sort of money that goes into your PMS account. The world authority on this is Queenie, and no doubt she'll be along later...

..in the meantime, if you pop up to our "Welcome" sticky there's a pointer to the page by Queenie which explains it all in great detail :)

:) Im joining in this month .I did it for one month a while ago , and shaved quite a bit off the shopping bill . but ive lapsed :naughty:
Ive read through a lot of the the other threads ( store cupboard challenge , Recipes etc ) and im armed and ready :T
ive been through my fridge/ freezer etc to see what else i have to work with , and i have a few loaves of bread in the freezer , courtesy of Tesco reducing just as i walked in .
Im setting myself a big challenge
We are a family of 4 adults , and 3 animals,
but i only buy for the cat (Dh buys for the others so im not counting them ) , but the cat food still adds up .and the eldest daughter usually buys her own food ,but then our Son usually brings people home to eat , so it still balances out that im usually feeding 4 adults,
weekly shop money is £70,,,,,( which i reduced a lot last time i did the grocery challenge) but this time ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the £70 is ALL im going to try and manage on ...for the month !! ..by using what i already have in the cupboard/ freezer etc, and just buying what is needed to top up meals , I dont know even if it can be done ,,,only works out £17.50 a week .and usually i have a sack of potatoes to go at , but ran out last week ,so need to buy one ,,,, but im going to give it a good go ,and let you know how i get on ,
My lot doesnt like pulses unfortunately , but love potatoes . meat & veg, Theyll eat pretty much anything else,
I had a lot of milk in the fridge, so pancakes, rice pud etc is on the menu .
and we all eat different things, which is helpful if i dont have enough of something to make a meal for everyone , someone can have a left over "Something"
My biggest problem is i pack lunches for both men ( son & hubby)
both 6 footers that take some filling .....and both with a sweet tooth, and both take cake, choccy etc etc etc in thier lunches,
Jack Fultons sell 5 choc bars for £1, which is good ,but i think im going to have a go at making gingerbread men ,as a filler up for lunch boxes.
they took cream crackers and cheese triangles today ( already had them in the fridge) and if i do a batch bake of fairy cakes,i can camaflague the tops with all kinds of things to make them more appetizing,
Im reading with interest all the posts, and already picked up some good ideas,
made a trifle yesterday , with cake on the bottom, jelly ( A little out of date , but i think it was okay) , custard, and squirty cream on the top . it went down well , so must have been ok .
wish me luck ( ill need it )

You'll probably want to try the thing with mixing lentils into mince to make it go further - no one ever notices. Also have a look at the value range of choccy bars - to see if they will go further and the choclate on bogof. You could always just avoid chocolate citing the warm weather.

    thanks raeble.
as i said they dont like Lentils , but i hadnt thought of "hiding" them in mince......it would bulk it out a lot .

Thanks to advice given out on thisForum I went to a farm shop today (10 miles away) So for a great start to the challenge for this month and my greatly reduced £140 budget, I got the following for £40

    5lb Minced Beef
    4 Slow Roast Joints
    5lb Brisket
    5lb Stewing Beef
    3lb Chicken
    2lb Liver
    10 Pork & Apple Burgers
    2lb Sauasage

My freezer has neever had so much meat in it. So I'm off to search the recipe thread to see what to do with Brisket.
