Hello Janeryan
Ocado is Waitrose basically but they deliver! I got the £20 voucher from the voucher section of this forum-I dont know how to do a link..sorry
Shopping arrived today fine, they didnt have my cinnamon bagels so they gave me a packet of plain ones for freeTotal goods came to £76.00 minus the £20 voucher, free bagels and free delivery. Total £52.33
When hubby unpacked everything there were a few problems which I have never experianced before with waitrose. 1 egg was cracked, 1 apple bruised, lettuce when opened for lunch had started going abit brown-but just removed them leaves and jar of mustard mayo had a small crack in jar-but still airtight! I emailed them politely and apologised for moaning but blah blah blah, and got an email back saying they were crediting my debit card with £5.15 for the goods  :T
Will use the cracked egg if OK for egg sarnie tomorrow, bruised apple will be cut up for daughter packed lunch, lettuce wasnt brown under a couple of leaves(think it had been over chilled) and the jar of mustard mayo is fine-just a crack in the jar but not affecting goods.
Brings total shop too £47.18
They also stuck in a freebie of Suncare washing up liquid-travel size...thank you very much Ocado!! :T

OP asked if anyone has survived on doing all their shopping in Lidl or Aldi and I can say YES!!!
When I was pregnant with my (now 4 year old) daughter I had only just moved into my own place with OH and we were on benefits so had to keep in a very tight budget! Our closest supermarket was Aldi so as I couldn't walk that far (bad back so being pregnant was not a good thing!) we did all our shopping there except for restocks on milk which we got from our local Co-op. Now I'm not saying that what I'm about to 'say' is a good thing or not, but when I got pregnant I weight 15st (only 12 months out of uni which was a diet of pizza, chips with gravy & mayo and lots and lots of lager!) and at my last check up before I had daughter I still weighed 15stone! We lived on chicken breast in breadcrumbs, fresh veg, toast for breakfast and lots of fresh fruit. After having my daughter I weighed in at just over 14 stone!!!! The doctors couldn't understand how someone who was pregnant could loose weight but once I explained the change in my diet they decided that that must have been the cause. So, not only did I manage to shop for 2 adults (one with a huge appetite and me with cravings for the strangest things) on less that £35 a week, I actually managed to get a healthy diet sorted. We only swopped to shopping at Asda (literally over the road from Aldi) as it is cheaper, 90%+ of the time, to buy their smartprice range than Aldi stuff! Maybe it's time I went back to shopping purely in Aldi :think:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I'm going to have a go at the challenge this month, as a newbie, I've been reading the boards for a few weeks/months, and have been following advice given on lots of the forums. For 2 adults and a dog, we currently spend way over £200 a month on food (usually between £50-70 a week). When I look back to when we were skint a few years back, I spent £60 a month and we still ate really well (and I was a lot thinner). So I'm going to cut back gradually, cut out the ready meals/convenience stuff that creeps into the trolley and this month start cooking from scratch, I plan to have a cooking day on Sunday or BHMonday and stock up the freezer as I often work late, so no excuses for nipping into Sainsburys for a ready meal plus all the other extras you get when you just nip in.
I'm also going to dig out my bread maker as DH is a bread monster we are talking approx 1 loaf a day for him, he eats toast like it's going out of fashion (it's wholemeal as he's diabetic
So my challenge will be £140 for us this month, starting at the weekend.Pay all debts by Xmas 12 # 072 £1201.79/£15,105.68:eek:

Squeaky,
The cost of the ready meals is so exorbitant (and my DH always choses the most expensive one in the shop) that I'm really hoping that by cooking from scratch I will be able to limit myself to £140. In the long term I want to get it to between 80-100 a month.

OK
I hope you'll have gathered that this thread is as much about support, ideas, and advice as it is about the budgeting itself. That's still a big change in one month and it means a change in life style as much as a change in shopping habits - so be sure that there are plenty of people sharing the challenge with you who you can turn to in times of need.
