https://www.fbu.org.uk/news/2017/06/15/fury-counselling-services-firefighters-involved-grenfell-cut-backCounselling services available to the firefighters who responded to the Grenfell Tower fire were drastically cut back, it can today be revealed, under Boris Johnson’s leadership as the former Mayor of London.
The number of counsellors trained to help firefighters process the traumatic scenes they witness on the job in the London Fire Brigade was cut from 14 to just 2 under Johnson, who also took 13 fire engines off the run. The current management of the LFB are now grappling with this unfortunate legacy of cuts.0 -
there are far fewer fires now than there used to be, thats why we dont need so many fire men or fire engines/0

Labour produced a costed manifesto, the Tories did not..
They did cost out a lot. Not everyone agreed the funding was correct.
And yet I can't find one single mention of sprinklers for tower blocks? Did I miss something?
Yet Labour will give the winter fuel allowance to rich pensioners.
At risk of being accused of a certain level of hypocrisy perhaps?I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.0 -

Nick Paget-Brown, leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, claimed the "collective view" was not in favour of sprinklers0 -
Its mental to give winter fuel payments to those that don't need it.
its mental to drop tuition fees if the family concerned can afford them.
its mental to keep a triple lock on pensions.
they're all very nice ideas, but can't afford them.0 -

How many economists are experts in financial management? Managing public finances isn't a game.0 -

You're clearly no economist.:)
In 1945 the nation was bankrupt, the national debt was over 200% of GDP. The Labour Party won the General Election in 1945. How did they deal with this predicament?
I'll give you a clue, David Kynaston's history of the period 1945-1951 is titled 'Austerity Britain'. Mr Stafford Cripps who served as President of the Board of Ttrade and then Chancellor of the Exchequer was known as 'Austerity' Cripps. Attlee's government started off with a peacetime deficit of about 6.5% of GDP, and managed to run a budget surplus by 1950. (And of course 6.5% is a lot less than the 10.5% or so that Mr Brown managed not so long ago.)
Nations have to live within their means. Nations that fail to do so either default or end up like Greece and find austerity imposed upon them by their creditors.0 -
Where's the money coming from?
A question that was largely ignored in the GE campaign.
It's a question the left can never coherently answer. Where's all the money going to come from?
Not from the top 5%,nd not by putting up corporation tax by 40% either.
An not from amazon, vodafone, starbucks etc come to that...they can afford better tax barristers than the govt can, they'll never pay up.
So, where's the money?0 -

One of the reasons for this is that those fire personnel who weren't fighting fires were undertaking fire prevention work. Spending time fitting a smoke alarm in a house is far more cost effective than waiting for the call to go to the same house to remove the bodies of a family who were asleep when the fire started and couldnt escape.
They have become a victim of their own success. Except now there are fewer staff doing prevention and regulatory checks.0 -
"The organiser of Friday's Grenfell Tower demonstration, in which protesters stormed Kensington Town Hall, is a Jeremy Corbyn-supporting political activist who was once arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences"
