Fibre broadband speeds?

Hi
I had a problem with the speed of my normal broadband speed so i spoke to SKY and they said they recommended SKY fibre. I have sky fibre now but my download speeds are 19mbps download
7.55mbps upload
154 ms ping
I have checked on google and these speeds seem to be slow for fibre, is there a minimum fibre speed that companies have to supply because i feel this is to slow.
Thank you

That is slow! I'm on Virgin's basic package and I'm getting over 70 down and over 6 up. Ping 7ms. And that's over Wifi. Would probably be faster if I was directly connected.
Are you using WiFi or an Ethernet cable? Are you testing in the same room as your router? What speeds did Sky promise you?0 -
Thank you for getting back to me, I am doing the test wireless sitting next to the new router from sky. Sky say on there website "speeds of 34mb"0

What was the estimated speed you were given ?....just like ADSL, fibre to the cab is distance dependent, but instead of how far away from the exchange you are, it's how far away from the fibre cabinet you are...if they didn't give you an estimate of speed , you can find out on speed checker sites, as you are Sky , you may have to use your postcode to get an estimated speed, if what you get is very different to the estimate for your address, you would need to speak to Sky, if it's close to the estimate , then perhaps due to distance that's all you will get from FTTC , and selling you fibre may not have been the correct thing to do, but you need to check first, what should you expect for your address/postcode

I'm not in a FTTC area so this may not be the best estimator site, I dare say you can do a search or even get an estimate from Sky themselves using you postcode
If they estimate 34Mb from an upto 38Mb service then presumably you are quite close to the fibre cab, and should be getting better than 19Mb...you should test using an Ethernet cable (not wireless) and be plugged into the master socket test point , if your ADSL was poor, it may be your home wiring that's the problem , and that will still be the case after switching to fibre0 -
It is slow for fibre.
But probably probably due to location.0 -
I bet internal wiring issues.0

You should be able to find your estimated speed in your Sky account and could you post the router stats?
Enter 192.168.0.1 in a browser, click Maintenance sign in with admin/sky scroll to bottom and select show statistics copy/paste these and we can see what speed you are actually connecting at.0 -

As others have said though, test it over ethernet, not wireless.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Use the address checker here http://dslchecker.bt.com to see what speeds are expected for your line.
Have you removed the faceplate and connected to the test socket.0 -
