Hi everyone.
My partner has got stuck in a serious trouble.
He has started his taxi just this month and gave accurate information for his taxi insurance.

But the problem is with his normal car insurance, Esure. Our previous broker gave false information in that insurance. Wrong place of birth and 8 driving years, whereas, he is actually driving for 4 years. We did not know this, until my partner had an accident last week on his car, for which he is not claiming at all, but the other party will claim. It was a hit at the back incident.

now the broker is out of reach. And Esure sent a fraud investigator at home as my partner said that he thinks the other party had a planned emergency break. The investigator took my partner's statement and his details, including licence copies etc.

What will happen?
Will Esure void our insurance and we will end paying all the claim expenses of the claimants?
could there be any serious consequences?

Thankyou

Yes if the policy was set up on false information then that does give them grounds to void the policy, reject any claim and pursue for reimbursement of any money they have to pay out to the third party

Consequences could be a prosecution for a fraudulent application, and at the least a cancelled policy on record (assuming they decide this was a deliberate attempt to defraud)

There were no accidents previously, no points, no claims,
this small error can still be considered as fraud??

Cant it be termed as a typo error?
Also, can we cancel that policy ourselves, as we are not driving that car anymore. All our premium was paid in advance.

You say this is now a fraud investigation, so cancelling now won't mean you end up with a clean history!

Looks to have gone past being accepted as a typo - what have they said to this?

its just been one day since the investigator came, so the insurance has no updated info with them. The Fraud officer came because my partner said that he doubted the front car had a pre-planned emergency break, resulting us in hitting him from the back. We don't want to claim anything.
but still, the fraud officer came to take my partner's statement. And took all his information. He said he will share my partner's data with all the parties.
That is when we got panicked.

my partner doe not want to have void insurance on his records, as he is driving taxi now. we know the accident will show up.

If they do decide to void the policy then it would have to be disclosed to his other bb insurer if they ask about void/ cancelled policies.

He needs to disclose this incident to his insurer if his policy requires all incidents/claims/losses to be disclosed. ,( They will find out via the shared database)

Your OP suggested your partner was being investigated for fraud but now this appears not to be the case??

I am sorry for the confused question. wanted to keep it short actually.

But my question is that because of this fraud investigator, can things go wrong of us?
can we cancel the policy ourselves and see what happens?

As Esure do not deal with brokers you were dealing with a "Ghost Broker" eg someone who is not a broker and arranges Insurance for you by manipulating your information to obtain a lower premium than you are entitled to.

Did you find the "broker" via gumtree or facebook?

Yes you can cancel at any time. Follow the cancellation procedure set out in the policy.

Because of the claim expect the truth to come out though. It is at claim time when insurers go through everything with a fine tooth comb!!

Thankyou very much for your replies seriously. We are really worried.
If we cancel the policy ourselves, and once the claim is processed from the claimant's side, can esure still void our policy? (which will be cancelled by us already)
