Agreed. Same with time, where 60 has more integer factors than 100. And the "rule of 72", both of which use 12's numerous factors to good effect.

I wonder if the staff are on a pound a hour?
On a similar note after brexit are we going to get rid of kilos?

And what about back to gallons of petrol.. ?

I hope not a litre of petrol is only around £1.20 but it's nearer £5.50 for a gallon ;)

They do tell you litres per 100km, which is actually fuel consumption. (less is better)

Miles per gallon is a measure of economy. (more is better)

They could tell you miles per litre, but there would be nasty decimals involved. My car does slightly less than 7 miles per litre, so when I go to top up I divide the mileage on the trip by 7 and I know about how much is going in. With my previous car, I could squirt in all but the last 5 litres really fast, but with this one it all has to go in at a dribble, or it just fountains back out, so the numbers are pretty academic, except I know when I'm nearly done at the pump.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Many years ago i worked in a stores warehouse for British Aerospace.
People would come in and order stuff like 3ft by 4ft of 8mm aluminium , 4ft of 10mm steel rod or 2lbs of 10mm screws.

I think maybe they worked for NASA

I tend to measure or guestimate larger sizes in feet and inches and measure smaller sizes in mm. I find it easier to visualise 6 foot rather than 1800mm but find millimetres easier than the variety of fractions of an inch.
  • When I was doing my apprenticeship (many years ago) one of the other apprentices was asked "How many thous do you think there are there in an inch?" He replied, "I don't know, but there must be millions."

Well as others have pointed out, its market forces and i totally agree. I guess someone has to pay £17 for a product so that i can have it at £8. Its a bit like gas and electric. Others volunteer to pay more so that i can have it cheap and so i salute those kind and generous people.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
