I have just done an oil and filter change on my car. The brand/grade of oil it likes is Mobil 1 ESP 0-20.

It is currently on sale at Halfords for £21.99 per litre and yet i can buy the same product for £8.50 plus Vat.

I have noted that many petrol stations also charge outrageous prices for motor oil packs.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

You are paying double the cheapest prices for the ability to rock up to Halfords or a petrol station on a Sunday afternoon and take the oil home, without ordering in advance/waiting for a courier/driving miles to the motor factors.

It is the same as people paying way over the odds for fuel and food at motorway services, when they could easily go to a Tesco, paying over £1 for a 30p can of pop at an event, or £3 a pint of lager in a pub when Tescos sell it at 60p.

It is like they don't realise......
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The phrase "rip off" gets banded around an awful lot, and isn't really accurate in a lot of cases. What's "rip off" about this situation? No one is forcing you to buy the oil at the higher price, but you may choose to or need to in some circumstances and therefore pay the higher price for that convenience.

OP I don't know what you do for a living but if you own or work for a business that sells goods or services, I assume you seek to make a profit and that your pricing sits somewhere in a range for comparable goods or services? If your company isn't the cheapest supplier, does that make it a rip-off merchant?

As Aylsebury Duck has explained, it's just free market forces at work. If you don't like it then vote Communist.

Besides, £8.50 + vat is a rip off. Just got 25 litres of 5W40 fully synthetic for £56 delivered. Had to wait overnight for it but that's £1.87 + VAT per litre for the next 2 oil changes on each of our cars.

On the other hand, I just paid our local garage £85 to put 4 litres of ATF and a filter in mine (about £25 in materials and an hour labour) siimply because it was far, far, easier than crawling under it on axle stands & gave me a chance to have a good look over the underside while it was in the air.

I bought a Bosch rear wiper blade. Halfords £10, ECP £7.50 ................ or ECP on Amazon £4.50. I tracked it as it was air freighted and UPS delivered to my door ;)

When I make my big "down south" trip I stop at Tesco Carlisle, literally just off the M6 J43, about 1/2 mile extra round trip than a services. Cheap 24hr petrol, cafe, toilets and a pretty well stocked sandwich shop and a Toby Carvery next door !

I seen the sign in poundland saying "everthings a pound'' and when i asked they said,
    'no, its each item."
    thats false advertising
    What a rip off.

Even some of those shops are stretching the rules. They have £5 items with a sign saying from £1.

Shares in poundland ought to be £1 maintained by stock issues and buybacks

Who would buy them? They'll only ever be worth £1.

I wonder if the staff are on a pound a hour?
On a similar note after brexit are we going to get rid of kilos?

And what about back to gallons of petrol.. ?
