How is a conservatory an over the top spend.?

It might be, if it's done badly, but if it's done well, then it's an extra room which will make a house much more attractive to people who like the outdoors.

It is actually a very good conservatory, and provides us with a dining room. It's not over the top as such, but cost a lot of money on top of the £15k we'd spent doing up the bungalow :)

Ours is much the same, if we ever get it finished, (long story!) but I see it as the only wise alternative we had as an extension, because bungalows can get so dark in the centre if they 'spread.'

So very sensible IMO if built well, which doesn't come cheaply. Many people create a freezer or an oven, depending on the season, and that's a waste of money even if the £/m2 is low.

Ours is usable all year round, although we do heat it in the winter. It has special glass that helps regulate the temperature.
