When i first started renting i bought an 'essential' dyson hoover that i said was an absolute bargain at £199.00 i rang the OH to tell him excitedly what id bought us and he put the phone down in shock... its still with us but i'd have a henry anyday! Dreading what non essential i buy when we complete on our house soon... thinking i might get one of these qooker things although my rewire might have to come first!

    How much was it?

Depends on the configuration chosen. Because of the situation here I chose the COMBI 'flask' under the sink. A Fusion round tap (moves up and down too) and hot water to the kitchen taps. The gear was certainly on the expensive side but it's exactly what I wanted and am thrilled with it.

Other makes are available! My friends have one that dribbles out nearly boiling water and my previous office had Zip HydroTaos installed.

There are many debates about the cost savings but, for me, it's about convenience, getting a cup of tea the minute I want one!

We nearly bought a £1K marble topped table in Italy that we thought would look lovely in the bay window of the Victorian house we were buying last year. We hadn't even viewed the house at that point, and in the end pulled out of the purchase.

Not to do with buying houses...but a few weeks ago we went to a garden centre to get a special offer on cat litter, and came home having bought a new car :)

(passed the car sales place on the way back from the Garden Centre).

    This beauty right here: http://www.firesonline.co.uk/acatalog/westfire-uniq-23-inset-stove-.jpg

Totally unessential but totally worth it! I love this thing so much.
  • The non-essentials were:

    £5000 on new sofas
£1800 on a projector for the home theatre
    £300 on a screen
£400 on a bedroom ceiling fan
    £550 on a wine fridge

    That was after:

£7,000 re-wiring (including networking and sound system cabling, external sockets, alarm, external lighting and power to an outbuilding)
£12,000 on redecorating, including plastering walls and ceilings throughout, stripping walls and painting throughout
    £3,000 on new kitchen appliances
£3,000 on drain repairs and new soakaways
    £2,500 on roof repairs
    £1,000 on glazing repairs

Went to get some plants for the bare garden space after we'd got rid of all the dead trees. Came home with no plsnts, but an electric scarifier (useful, but not that vital at that stage) and having put a deposit down on a wooden playhouse on stilts with slide for the 1 year old to go in the garden (certainly not vital, although a few years on he loves it)

My Dualit toaster splurge feels a lot less self-indulgent in the face of these posts, though it felt wasteful at the time.

This place needed a complete refurb - electrics, new bathrooom, new kitchen, new heating the lot. And I bought a Qooker Fusion boiling water tap :o it's just brilliant and even after three years I love it, along with the Franke bowl and a half sink.

No more kettle being put on to boil and forgotten about, no more drinking tea / coffee with water boiled three or four times and so tasting nasty.

Would do the same if ever moving in the future, though I sincerely hope not to.

Oh, are these over the top, I thought everyone had them! All my family do!

Haha I've bought the dualit architect toaster and kettle. Everyone thinks I'm mad. :D I've also bought the 9kg Samsung washing machine with the add-wash door, you can turn it on from your phone. My dad just shakes his head when I tell him my purchases for the new house.
