West Yorkshire. Relatives in County Durham also have had them, and in Devon (albeit in larger cities in each area).
Given that Leeds was identified as on the of the first sets of cities to get them then I'm not surprised you've seen them, there's still plenty of us who haven't.

I've heard that they're in circulation up here (West Central Scotland) but I've not seen one yet.

I've started to get the new £1 coins in the last few days, I've had 6 so far (annoyingly all minted in 2016, I'm trying to make a collection of one from every year, although I expect the 2017 ones will appear at some point). If the machines are still taking the old coins and the TOC hasn't updated the ticket machines by the time they cease to be legal tender perhaps you could build up a stockpile to use after that date as I doubt if they will change the machines to reject them. Although that does then risk you being left with a pile of unusable scrap coins.

you need the 2015 one for a complete set.

If you have one with 2015 on it it's a fake. The Royal Mint confirms that production started in 2016 and the only dates in circulation are 2016 and 2017.

I'd be surprised if that map is up to date as the coins I've had came from a cafe in Stratford on Avon and a Wilko in Northfield, neither of which are that likely to use the two locations listed for Birmingham to get their coins.

The 2015 ones are trial pieces issued for the reprogramming of mechs, there are plenty on eBay for a price
  • You can't be fined unless you are in a Penalty Fare area, in which case a penalty fare will be applied.

However if you had the opportunity to buy a ticket before you travelled, the conductor can refuse to sell you a discounted ticket on board the train. This means you would have to buy an Anytime Single or Return and could not buy an off-peak ticket or use a railcard.

Are they actually legal tender? I'm sure it would be unlikely that anyone would notice the date unless they were looking particularly closely, but if they did could they refuse to accept it?

AFAIK they are not legal tender but they are exactly the same as a legal tender coin except they say trial piece in tiny letters and the date is 2015.

they are collectable for that reason
