Thanks, that is useful to know. And yeah, I know it's a standard question - but really, it wasn't asked when I went through the quote. It's direct line; for some reason they don't ask that question on their website when you fill out the quote.

It's there somewhere, perhaps as a declaration.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

You've got it on for £795 - why bother selling at all if you're having trouble? Why not just give it to someone who might be looking for that sort of restoration project?

It's definitely in there, and you can't get a quote without explicitly stating that your car is unmodified.

Stage 5 of the quote process is "Assumptions and privacy". You have to agree that a series of bullet points are true, by clicking the "I confirm that the above statements are true" button. The last one is
"Your vehicle has not been changed from the manufacturer's standard specification (including wheels, suspension, bodywork and engine)"

Lets hope no DLG staff from claims or underwriting frequent this forum as you have provided your reg and admitted to failing to disclose mods. That in itself on a public forum is enough for them to look up and void the policy. Honesty is always the best policy with insurers.

    Good luck selling the car.

WBAC won't touch it as it's so obviously not road worthy.

sorry but you dont know what you are on about, the rust this car car has is very minor for a mx5 and wont affect its strength at all in the hassis. welded up many of these in this part as it is a rust spot but easily done chassis itself is good on these cars.

How much would you charge for the welding work? if you are close enough to the OP, he might want your help!

Having owned four MX-5s (Mk1, Mk1, Mk2.5, Mk2), if the visible rust front and rear is as bad as that shown on the OP's pictures, there's a strong likelihood the front chassis legs are compromised as well, as they're very often the next place that goes after the rear sills.

There is no chassis on the MX-5 of that age, merely an aluminium backbone fitted between the front and rear running gear. A large proportion of the structural strength comes from the body, and in the state the OP's is in, that strength is undoubtedly compromised beyond what would make the car structurally unsound.

It's salvageable, doubtless, but still unroadworthy.

He's been told it'll fail it's MOT on the rust, and you can see it from across the car park. WBAC will be putting something like that into auction, where it'll fetch peanuts in it's current state, so they'd need to pay less than that.

It's probably not worth the space on the transporter.

These cars are known for their corrosion problems, but they are lovely cars to drive and generally very sound mechanically. I have a 2005 Mk2.5 Arctic, the last of the 2.5s, and keep it in tip top condition. It has had corrosion issues, but they have been solved, albeit at some cost. OP's car would be a bargain for someone prepared to put the work in. New chassis rails will cost around £600, so not the end of the world.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
