I would be seriously annoyed as well. A brand new car is not the same as a brand new car that has been repaired.

This wasn't a brand new car. It was a six month old car that had been bought used - so was quite probably an ex-hire car. Who knows what the previous history included?
It's nearly always obvious that a car has had a repair, no matter how well it has been done.

No, it isn't. Decent quality repairs will be all but indistinguishable from the original. Many brand new cars have already had body repairs before they are even delivered, due to damage incurred in transit and storage - and the owner is none the wiser.

Very true. My son worked for VW Rectification in Emden, Germany a few years ago repairing brand new export VW's (many on their way to the UK). Some were quite severely damaged - collisions during loading, falling off transporters etc. Repairs were obviously up to manufacturer standard, cars fully warranted and nobody any the wiser.

It's nearly always obvious that a car has had a repair, no matter how well it has been done. Insurance premiums will increase, but hopefully not by much (I don't know how this is justified). However, it is still to the OP's detriment.

Having said all that, I don't think there is any choice in the matter.
I would be annoyed too but I disagree that repairs are obvious. Vehicle repair companies are pretty good at their jobs, in my experience the repairs I've had on cars have always made it look good as new. I mean it can be obvious on older, worn cars that clearly have brand new panels but other than that I've never had an issue.
