Sounds knackered to me. Any beeps when switching on? Last try :-
    1. switch off computer (hold power button in for 10 secs to be sure)
    2. WITH MAINS LEAD IN switch OFF at mains
    3. hold power button ON for 20secs (yes, with mains OFF)
    4. switch mains ON, press power button:- any beeps/keyboard lights...

    No beeps when switching on.

    Will try the rest now.

Yes, sounds like PC is a dud.

    All that organising!

With your level of experience probably not worth tinkering inside machine

    May invalidate warranty
Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !

Light of dvd drive flashes for about 5 seconds and dvd drive makes a noise but that is it - no other lights. The dvd drive stops making any noise after 5 seconds as well.
