WiFi calls to replace landline

I spend a lot of time in a house which, because of the distance from the exchange, doesn't have a landline, and there is no mobile phone signal for miles. I do have a good broadband connection. I need to be able to occasionally phone businesses to make appointments, and for them to be able to phone me.

Is there an easy and cost effective way to do this? I have tried to research but the focus seems to be on me phoning international numbers cheaply which isn't what I need. Any advice gratefully received.

Plenty of voice over IP (VOIP) services out there which should work on any intenet connection.

If there's no mobile signal and no landline, how do you get your broadband?

Broadband comes from a radio mast. There has been a big push to connect remote rural areas to broadband and the signal is quite good. Will look into a VoIP set up. Thank you

Currently I drive 6 miles to a signal area, lease via WhatsApp with a family member with a landline or email. It's only for occasional use.

Get a skype UK phone number. Not free though

Beside people could contact you, you could also take this number with you wherever you are going.

There's the Tesco Mobile app, it was offering free landline calls, 1p/min mobile calls. One-time setup requires a working mobile signal to accept the activation code. After that your mobiles number appears to the callee, unless you use the hide number prefix (haven't tested though).

On top of that you could simply have a smartphone with a 321 sim, 3p/min to landlines or mobiles and use wifi calling. in the most modern phones wifi calling using your mobile credit is built in and works well. On older phones there's a Three wifi calling app. Wifi calling also manages texts as if from your mobile.

All in all a wealth of options that are simpler than clever-clever VOIP tech that converts your router into a 'real' landline.

Do you have a link to the app? the app I found after searching doesn't mention calls.

OP do you have a mobile phone at all? Appreciate there's no signal where you live but Three U.K have WiFi Calling available to PAYG customers.

Of course this is handset dependent.
