Yes a 2 mph bump, the first in 10 years if driving certainly makes you a lunatic driver!

First it was 3-4mph but now because i indicated that 3-4mph is very likely to cause damage a car you've changed it to 2mph?

The other member was just pointing out it's hardly unfair for insurance to raise your premium if your risk factor changes.

  • Sorry retro gamer not 2 not 4 think it was 4.0056543 mph.

Either way insurance chap said you did the correct thing.

And at 4 mph each would have taken 2 mph impact. Would make the grand sum of little difference.

Suspect you would be out to claim for a new bonnet, wings and whiplash lol.

If the police were that fussed they know where the cctv is for the other persons reg.

That's an interesting take on it.

Out of curiosity's sake if you were sitting in traffic and someone reverses into your car and it's slow and makes a bang and there's no visible damage would you be cool if the other guy said it's probably ok and you don't need any of his details, or would you want to get it checked in case there was unseen damage underneath the bumper or similar?

Me? Nah, i try and behave in a way that's not detrimental to the rest of society by doing things like telling lies or committing fraud. But i've came back to my car that's been damaged before because someone bumped into it and couldn't be bothered to take any responsibility for their actions so i can relate to the annoyance.

And you know fine well that they don't have the resources for something like that.

If you had provided the police with the registration number for the other car, it's likely they would have got in contact with them then.

So as i said before very convenient that your partner couldn't wait for the other driver to appear, ask for a loan of a pen / paper, had a phone to take a picture of the reg or even remember it.

It's been reported in a way that means she's not broken the law but also in a way that makes it virtually impossible for the third party to get any recompense if it turns out to be damaged behind the bumpers (which is very common)

Or make a note of the reg on the phone or text it. Nah too much to ask.

Reversing into something parked up at 4mph is not the same as 2 objects moving together at 2mph. I never said she was a lunatic, I said she's not a good driver if she can't reverse without hitting a car which is why the insurance premium may go up as if it happens once, it could happen again (insurance logic).

Even at 4mph I'd have the car looked at to make sure there was no paintwork problems, parking sensor damage etc. A car on PCP that is being handed back will be affected on the GMV if there is some damage so a proper check-up is logical.

Also yes, why not text the reg, go into supermarket and borrow a pen and paper, ask someone else etc. If I was parking up and saw someone do it and then leave without a note I'd leave one with their reg and offer my dash cam footage if applicable

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
