I've no idea. But it looks like one of those ultrasonic animal deterrent devices. Maybe it's to scares off cats or pigeons or something...?

It could be, though it's wired into their house, and they have a puppy farm in their back garden so I don't know if that would interfere with the dogs.

Someone local said that they thought it was a listening device, an audio receiver for tapping into telephone conversations.

Do the owners dislike children hanging around their property or nearby? If so, it may be a child repeller.

No it's not, not unless it's been made DIY (and that box looks very DIY). The Mosquito device is very questionable in use and the rights are owned solely by a company called Compound Security. I know the company and I know the product and that is not one of them.

  • Could it be an audio surevilance as it has those punctured out holes? A local person suggested that it could be some sort of listening device.

Could be anything its a simle enclosure big enough to house all sorts of devices.

Could be listening devices or even cameras. Plenty of room for several of each.

It's a device that monitors the activities of pryng neighbours who take an interest in things that don't concern them.

Except that it does concern as I wouldn't been bothering with this if it didn't. You have no background story, you don't know whether the people with the device have previously broken laws or have commited offences so just concentrate on the post in hand, if you have nothing to offer other than what you have put, move on.

Unlikely - Have you seen the size of microphones these days.
A covert listening device could fit in a penci eraser, never mind that huge box
    Not very covert

    That technology does not exist
(At least as a box that you would install on the top of your house)

I suspect it is something benign and your neighbour is pulling your strings
Install one yourself and dont tell him what it's for ..
