Panasonic Replacement TV

Options
Hi ,

Just wondering where i stand on the below

I had purchased a panasonic 42" tv in 2014 with a 5 year warranty and last week it was picked up by repairs team and i am informed today they cannot repair and have offered a replaceent tv .
The issues i have are
its a 40" tv
has not got 3d

Although the tv they are providing is new for 2017 and higher price to what i paid which does not really concern me as 40" would be scaling down i can scale up however?i was looking for a similar size or higher they either have 40" or 50" how do i proceed with this?
what are my rights on replacement?
do i call panasonic to speak to them about it as tv is not for my liking and if so what jargon can i use to get this sorted

Any advice is much appreciated.

What do the terms of the warranty state regarding a replacement?

You're getting a new TV oF a higher spec for an old broken tv, so you're not necessarily scaling down.
Pretty sure 3D tv tech is dying out so I don't think that will hold any weight either.

Unless the warranty states same screen size or higher you're probably not going to get the 50"

There is no jargon to get you're own way. You're describing kicking up a fuss.

Sounds like hes currently trying to claim under the warranty, so nothing to do with the retailer.

I cant see a claim from the retailer getting him anymore than this tbh. Its 2/3 years old, depending when in 2014 he bought it. You cannot get 3D tech anymore (from most major players) so that is not a loss.

A brand new TV only 2inch smaller than his 3 year old broken outdated one? I don't see the SOGA awarding him anymore than that. He'd be lucky to get a partial refund, which wouldnt cover his 40" 2017 model TV.

Even a full refund (which is never going to happen with the retailer) would put the OP in a worse position than the warranty claim as they even admit the new TV they have been offered by Panasonic is a....

I realise that now, I clicked on the reply button but some reason left it to post the reply.

I agree with what you say though.

There's no harm in talking it over with Panasonic customer services. You may be able to persuade them to get a bigger screen but you'll have to accept that you'll no longer be getting 3D.

As already mentioned, the alternative is to exercise your consumer rights with the original retailer but this will be time consuming and likely result in putting you in a worse position than what you're being offered now.

Personally in this situation I would at least contact the retailer to see what they would offer, although Panasonic have offered a smaller (slightly) TV that currently has a higher retail value and will almost certainly be higher spec given the timescales, the retailer may be able to offer a different brand in a 42" as an exchange or as technology has got cheaper even a partial refund may be better and either buy outright a new different brand 42" or have just a small amount added to it to get a better 42" or even upgrade to say a 47-50", especially if you can get the money fully refunded and are able to shop around with other retailers for a good deal.

Of course the retailer may put the value of the old one very low needing quite a bit added to buy a new one, but they may be generous and without asking you will never know. It is worth at least finding out what your other options are via the retailer before making any decision.

    Who is the retailer?
  • As a comparison, the wording on my Sony extended warranty reads "2.4 If we do not repair the Product we will replace it with equipment of the same or similar specification."

I personally would not consider a reduction from 42" to 40" as being of similar specification. The next size up is 49", which in itself may be too large for your requirements. I might be making the point that, as Panasonic no longer do 3D, you should be receiving the higher screen to compensate for the loss of 3d functionality, and to compensate for the now redundant 3d glasses that you have.
