I am now going to get pet insurance for my cats, also I didnt use them because of low wage, they were recommended by family and used by family for years but always paid for treatment regardless how much charged, I can fully understand by using a charity vet that I may not get the higher standard of treatment you would get at a private vet, il say again as its mentioned again he has had a post moterm and it was inconclusive, I have learned a hard lesson. Thank you for the kind comments, teddysmum and moneymaker.0

"Fair enough. I'm sure the eighteen quid they charge for consultation, plus the fifty quid donation per vaccinated and neutered cat over the years has been a huge help.
If you can't handle somebody saying something difficult online, you are going to lose the plot once you're in a courtroom where they have professionals whose entire job is to create enough doubt about the circumstances and your character. I'm being brutally honest - you will most likely be painted as a stereotypical cheapskate of low intellectual attainment who has cars and a status dog but takes advantage of an overworked charity to keep a bunch of animals healthy, and is now irate because he wants a new dog from a charity with no care for the implications your action will have on hundreds of other animals that won't be able to be treated because of the thousands spent in defending what they will see as at best frivolous, ill informed and borne of ignorance, at worst malicious, action. That's what barristers and lawyers do. And if you can't handle a description of what that is like online and interpret it as an attack on you, you won't be able to handle it in court.
Mind you, if you can't remember the bloody great lump you claimed came out of his side, maybe the confusion is arising from you having told a different version of events somewhere else"
Still twisting away are we JoJo lol, im not irate, neither do I want a dog, neither do I want to hurt a vets practice and stop them helping animals, I do not have the power or money or either want to do anything like that, but you nothing of my intelligence, ive been to court twice and won both times representing myself so I have a good idea how the court works I dont need you telling me as I already know I believe I said that before also, im not someone who uses a car and dog for status either thats just the picture you have painted and want to see of me I can understand that.0 -
I agree with others that charity or not the vets still have to provide an acceptable level of care and service. I also agree that the care in private may be better just because they will have the funds for more high tech equipment (but not all of them, this would need researching)
Op don't beat yourself up over the vets you choose hindsight is a wonderful thing, you are not to blame for this (I don't think the vets are either, but if you truly believe otherwise it is your decision what to do).
It like us humans, some doctor surgery's are better than others, hospitals all have different equipment available to them, do we choose to live by the best hospitals just in case. No we live within our budget/work/family, likewise most of us choose our doctors by location and recommendations from family friends. No different than the OP has done with their choice of vets, it is cruel to criticise someone who is grieving for making that choice, although I do agree it is right to point out the difference between the two types of vets.0 -

I dont know what you have been to court for and you dont have to say but alot of things in court are much clearer where someone/company is either right or wrong and the judge needs to decide which.
In a case like this it is far more complicated to prove right or wrong (from either side) this is where the vets will have the 'advantage' where you will need to prove they were in the wrong, rather than them having to prove they did right, without convulsive evidence and expert witness (will be very difficult to find a vet willing to testify in court against another) this is going to be very difficult.
In your other cases did you need expert witnesses or was this not required in those instances?0 -
iammumtoone,
Nicely said, I know I come here filled with emotion and its nice to see not everyone will criticize but think and ask the right questions, it always helps in any matter, I do find it hard to get to grips with knowing he only got standard blood test results and and xray, we are researching all the private vets in our area of Essex in and around a 25 mile radius looking at reviews.0 -
I went to court as I was made redundant from a company I worked 9 years for, worked my wway up the ladder and was very good at my job as an air conditioing engineer, the company had over 30 men doing the same as me and most were cowboys, I just worked hard and didnt fit in because I werent a cowboy and didnt suck up to the boss talking about football, basically the company for years just sacked and made people redundant when ever they felt like it, one year it was my turn and they gave me a scorecard on a matrix system which made me look like the laziest and most unreliable worker who was useless, I took it quite hard as I knew I was one of the top 5 workers easy, it was even proved in the year before when they laid people off I was always marked high and you can tell when you work with people over the years.
Anyway I proved that when making their little scorecards that they had done no workings to come to a score for any of the factors they scored me in or any of the other 30+ men.
The second time a crash repair company drove one of their company cars in to mine as I was doing a three point turn and they took me to court for thousands of pounds of damages, in the end my paperwork and drawings proving he was in the wrong ended in a no show by them in court and me winning costs, ive never been arrested or been in trouble myself.0 -

It was a hard lesson & there's no guarantee a private vets would have saved your dog, whatever equipment they had - so don't blame yourself.
I think charity vets are to serve the unwaged - leave them to provide treatment to animals whose owners cannot afford private vets.
I take my cat to vets4Pets in Pets at Home, they have late opening mid week & weekend opening - that works for me, their prices are very reasonable & they do a maintenance plan.0 -
And I go to my local vets, ten min away, who are also a vet hospital and where I could go quickly with one of the dogs in an emergency.0

I am not going to take anything away from you, you did well to win, not everybody would have been able to take that on.
However I hope you can see that those are very different from taking on a vet, in those situations you or any 'average' person can be their own expert, but you are not a vet or medical expert and it will be hard for you to present evidence against those that are, unfortunately googling side effects from treatments does not count for a credible witness, you would need the original author of the articles to verify them for you.
You have already lost a beloved pet, I don't want to see you lose alot of money which I am sure you could put to better use.0 -
In the village I live in there are two vets they dont have very good reviews online, there some vets in the surround towns and a specialist horse and bulldog vets about 6 miles away, I do wish when I took my dog on and moved from London that I looked for a private vets and paid more for treatment, it is a hard lesson indeed, as you say even in doing this it may not of resulted in a different ending, no body knows. But il try to find another vet.0
