I'm struggling to understand your viewpoint on this, but as I have nothing to feel shame about (at least, not in this thread :D) I'll just hope that if you re-read what you've posted along with the comments of other posters you'll realise that your reaction is out of step with the majority.

I would worry more if these posters agreed with me. If I said the sky was blue they would say it was red

Is it merely a petty point though to state that only the person making the purchase can deal with the shop? To me that seems very relevant indeed.

Many of us here take certain things for granted, like the original purchaser having any rights. I think it dangerous to assume that everyone who comes looking for advice already knows the basics.

It is petty as it is completely irrelevant to what the OP is venting about. If the OP had bought the phone and not his wife then there would have been no change to the problem he is experiencing.

Maybe if the poster had worded their response more politely to reference the fact that although it would make no difference to the OP but legally only the purchaser had the legal right of return then that would have been helpful. Instead what happened was a one line statement that just read "look how clever I am"

It's unnecessarily and not how people should be behaving on this forum and I don't think it was all clear to a newbie what point he was making. If you had no idea about consumer rights legislation some guy underlining a word in your post and saying something very random doesn't really help!

ARGOS own parent company Sainsbury's mobile policy is and I quote "You can return your mobile within 14 days as sold for any reason for a no quibble refund or exchange"

Apple Store has a similar no quibble policy.

I asked ARGOS to redress this issue by allowing me to exchange my iPhone a week after I bought it for an iPhone7+ ( I was prepared to pay the difference).

This iphone7 was bought as an early birthday present by my wife, who was under the impression that I could exchange this gift under a similar no quibble policy, yes their returns policy is on their website, and like many, we did not read the small print, however had I bought this from their parent company or Apple I would not be in this predicament. Anyway ARGOS told me to 'go and do one', and directed me to their returns policy. Please LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKE, do NOT buy mobiles from ARGOS with their inferior returns policy, spread the word, you have been warned!!!

Nothing wrong with buying from Argos.

Thousands have bought from Argos. You have had a bad experience.

i used to be a refunds manager back in the day for argos.. talking 10 years ago..

Phones were excluded from exchange and money back because of the memory on them.

People would leave pictures on them and dodgy apps etc.

This didnt effect faults or stat rights, but if you used it for a bit decided it was no good and wanted to take it back, the terms always stated it was excluded.

I had this with a IPOD that had clearly not been opened, had the receipt, bought the day before but hubby bought me the lower storage one - I offered to pay the difference and they said no that it could have been opened. I told them it was all sealed and there is no way it could have been opened (you could see that) but they wouldn't do it and said hubby would have been told when he bought it (he wasn't). I have not bought anything electrical from Argos since - it wasn't just their inflexibility but the rude attitude from the start (i was nice not rude or anything).
Debt free May 2016 (without the support of MSE forum users that would never have been possible - thank you all)

This is the praise/vent and warning board.

Posting very petty points of law about consumer rights (which don't really have any relevance to the point the OP was making) on a persons vent is unnecessary and not what this forum should be about.

    Shame on you.

Yes it does because the op is completely in the wrong. For one the op's thread title is completely misleading, you have to read the whole thing to then see there's no problem with the product at all it was just a change of mind that was then attempted to be returned by another person.

Yes it's a vent forum but there's some people who would buy a bag of ice from a Supermarket, go somewhere else and leave their car parked in the sun. They would then get home and wonder why the bag of ice is now all water then they'd take to a forum and complain about it like mad but at no point wonder if in fact the whole situation shouldn't have been unexpected!

You've not read the post properly ;)

The OP is warning that if you buy an iPhone from Argos you don't get the same return rights than i f you had bought the phone from Sainsburys (who own argos) or apple.

I realise that certain people on this forum like to nit pick and try and make out that people are idiots but for me this seems like something that seems like a good warning to be posted.

I accept that nobody else on this thread thinks the OP's post is useful but I do sort of think this reflects badly on them as opposed to me :)
